The factory blades on my Eco 8 are torn in a couple of different spots. Can i cover the exposed area or should i replace them. tips are also shaved down a bit from mowing the lawn :D

Get some glass fibre(even better Carbon fibre) ones and don't do it again :D

I think you can recover them, I've never bothered as a new set of woodies are fairly cheap and when I asked in my LHS for something suitable for recovering Heli blades they looked at me blankly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If you can fly that low inverted, it's about time you thought of getting some Carbon Symmetricals......LOL

Seriously, yes you can re-cover them, either heat shrink tubing (which I think Ikarus sells for the purpose) or with any of heatshrink coverings for model aircraft. Just be careful not to over shrink and bend the blades.

actually its from the blades hitting the ground in regular flight, or should i say regular crashing

As long as it's only the tips that are damaged, you can even shorten them a bit. If the roots are damaged use them as mixing sticks, that's all they are good for then.
Cover them with shrink foil, but make sure you realy stick it down. Use BalsaLock if you want to do it really well.
I'll be posting an article on blade coverign on the Flight School soon.

Always, always, always balance your blades properly if you have done such a major thing. I mean CoG balancing and everything!

In that case do what i did and buy a Piccolo and when you can hover out a full pack in your front room then switch to the 8 outside :D

That is honestly what I did, although I have to admit I crashed it more often than I needed to because I got over enthusiastic because of the low repair costs. I still use it as a Sim now :D

My blades are prety rough too, but I fly with them just like that no re-covering. Even though I have the GF blades, I want to use the woodies until I break them.

I have done just about everything to keep flying untill I can make it to the Hobby Shop..

Box Tape
Monocote
quick cool fix is drawer liners...they are peel and stick...

I'm getting confused...to crash or not to crash? that is the question? Wether it is nobler to suffer the boring hover or the outragious slings and stalls of taking lifes chances...

while dying a thousand deaths of the wannabee or the glorious triumph of the victorious sky riders....still...

crashing's not all it's cracked up to be..

Landing safely is a thrill never mentioned again..

A good crash is a horrible memory played over and over fondly with great freinds...

I've used Monokote before as well and had no problems with it.. as a matter of fact it helped me get a warp out of a blade. :)

Monokote or Oracover will do the job just fine.
Just make triple sure that the blades aren't structurely damaged, such as cracks or splits.

Ah the great debate. Who really said this line. I remember a cartoon from my youth that featured Tooter the turtle (who lived in a shoe box in the woods) and his wise friend, Mr. Wizard. Tutor always wanted to go somewhere or be someone, which Mr. Wizard would reluctantly grant with a swipe of his magic wand. When Tooter inevitably got into trouble, he would yell, "Help me, Mr. Wizard! I don't want to be anymore!" Whereupon the voice of Mr. Wizard would incant:

Drizzle, drazzle, druzzle, drome
Time for this one to come home.

and spiral animation effects would pluck Tooter from his predicament.

This cartoon originally aired in 1960 !!! How many people remember that !!

I'm pretty sure that Radd is completely sane unless he is thinking or talking about helicopters; or flying them; or building them... OK, maybe you're right... only glimpses of sanity but they can't put you away for this, right?

I mean, I'm not a danger to myself or others. I do my work, well most of the time. Sure there is more to life than helicopters, there must be... Oh, I am a sick unit! Is there a help line for this...

Hey, wait a sec. We're talking about Radd. He's definately sane, as sane as you or me...

But wasn't it apart of the "Bullwinkle and Friends" show?
Tennessee Tuxedo, Snidely Whiplash....etc

You know Radd, I think you're right. Tooter was part of the Bullwinkle show... one of the little side cartoons they showed in it.

I have re-covered mine with the battery heat-shrink from www.hobby-lobby.com. (http://www.hobby-lobby.com.) It may add a small amount of weight, but it works really well. As you know, the original wrap is very light, and even a tall weed can make the ends start to peel, but the battery heat-shrink is a lot more durable, and it is even white, so your blades will look like they did when they were new.

"Tooter Turtle" and "The Hunter" were later picked up in 1963 for the early episodes of "Tennessee Tuxedo" on CBS. Later, these older segments were replaced on Tennessee's show by "World of Commander McBragg" and "Klondike Kat".

By the late 60's, all the short segments of the above two shows, including "Tooter Turtle", were often run individually by local networks as part of "hosted" kids shows. In addition, both "Tennessee Tuxedo" and "The King and Odie" (which was "The King Leonardo" renamed) were in syndication, so there were several shows on which to watch Tooter Turtle.

Yes I think Tooter was included eventually with bullwinkle and Rockie ( the original flying heli squirrel )
