So what gyro is best to keep my tail!!! I have the Ikarus gyromaster(is it really a master???) and even after playing with the revo crap i cant seem to keep a steady tail, not that i like to cheat but flying with a unpredictable tail S**KS!!!! I have read alot about this subject but as we all know some work better for others and visa versa. I am thinking of going with a JR HH, which one is best??? Forget the cost as i have alot more in my heli than i care to add but without this it just wont fly right!!!!!

P.S. My newborn son LOVES to watch the Piccolo fly around the living room, he really is something to watch!!!!!

OK the JR G410T is very good.

I was using the GY240 Futuba from Cayuse and it was awsome. To steal a computer term it was Plug-and-Play(Fly).

JR G410T here as well.. works like a charm! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My LHS has a JR G460-T Sports lock gyro, does this sound good, oh and its $169.

I think Buzz uses that one. From what I remember he was pleased with it, but verify that with him.

Check out this link. It's $35 cheaper than your LHS, and the shipping is free. Plus no sales tax!

Shipping is free, but it may take a while before it gets to you.

I bought my ECO 8 from them and it took 4 days. I also bought my GY-240 from them and it took 3 days. I've bought a few other things from them and never been more than 5 days.

I bought a set of tools from them, it took about 12 days to get to me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's pretty bad! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've had nothing but good service from them. I need to get another gyro, and was thinking about ordering the 410T that they've got for $110.00. I like the two GY-240's but I was thinking of putting the JR-410T on my Voyager E. I don't really know why, other than keep JR with JR kind of thing, and Harromeo claims they're good. Besides, I'm getting tired of switching gyro's between heli's. I've got 3 heli's and 2 gyro's.

Maybe mine was just one bad incident.

I agree to that, great gyro!

Hi guys,
regarding the german board, there are only two choices for serious flying: GY240 or GY401 ... I didn't read anything else for a LONG time ! The GY240 is good for standard servos .. the GY401 for standard and digital ones.
Since 1 172 years, i fly the GY240 myself and it's one of the best investments I did on my Eco8, especially since the Ikarus telegyro caused two crahses. One just after I got the Eco .. I didn't know that it was the gyro, the tail just came around and the heli did pirouettes just after take off. When it happened the second time, I threw it away and got the GY240 .. Next Heli will get a GY401 since the price differences aren't that big anymore.

Since we are on about gyros.
How important is it to be able to swich the HH off in flight?

For me it is not important at all. Actually, my GY240 is stable enough, that I can fly fast backwards without HH.
I prefer the normal mode anyway, since you can "pull" the heli through sharp curves without steering the tail .. using HH will make the heli crash probably if you try that, at least that's what happenes to me in the sim.
For me, there are only two occasions when HH appears to be useful: Really fast backwards flying and when you are a beginner and start learning to hover. Both issues are a matter of training and can be handled without HH too and with a good standard gyro it's not really difficult.

Are you saying that flying in HH mode is just a matter of training?

What do the pros do? I know they use/need HH to do fast backward flight and tail slides, but do they switch modes in flight?

Not even that complicated really, you just have to use the rudder a little more when you make a turn.

I use the GY 240 in HH mode always, it is great!!

I had actually thought about getting one that was switchable from the tx for FF, however after flying FF for a bit now I just naturally turn the tail when I do turns, so I'm not looking to upgrade my gyro anytime soon. It was a little irritating at first, but something that just needs to be learned like everything else. If I don't give tail input it doesn't "weathervane" through turns at all.. the tail will stay pointed at me and it just slides sideways.

Hmm still ... that only have been two figures / flight phases where one would need HH .. and the question is .. how often are you doing that? On the other hand ... I know pretty good Eco8 flyers who almost disabled their gyro and steer everything by themself (went down to 10% gain on the GY240) That trains you a lot in case of a gyro failure (which happened to me twice already!) I don't think you really need HH as long as you don't fly 3D championships /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Well ... and if you use it ... there's really no need to switch it when your heli is airborne ... actually, if you do, a lot of parameters need to be switched also in the same process .. like the tail mixers.

Fredrik W

For me it was a relief when I used a HH-gyro for the first time. One stick less to fight, and no pitch / tail rudder mixer to tweak when I starded do FF.

I have a normal rate gyro and don't find the tail management a hassle. Maybe I'm more convincing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I must admit I have some practice with my 11 year old son. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Q....don't tell Radd, but I cheat when I'm Rockin' and a Rollin'...I use HH, but I DON'T like it for normal flying. My gyro is the JR G460T and it's absolutely great in either mode. BUT, it can't be switched in the air and I really don't like that. For aa gyro that expensive I didn't really believe that it couldn't be switched from the Tx, but it can't, so don't buy one.

I have to admit I can't quite see the point of switchable gyro's even though I use them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Not being an expert I've probably not grasped the true concept of switching in flight but if you are setup for HH when you switch to Normal you'll be OK in FF or FFF because of weathercocking but do a hard climbout and you'll have to put in loads of rudder to give the Revo you don't have and if you are setup for Normal switch to HH and it just won't work because you have Revo programmed in your Tx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I realise that the current crop of Gyro's are a lot better than older ones but... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

FWIIW I use HH and am happy "forcing" the tail to follow the bird round /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just wanted to know what you guys thought.
Now I knwo I have enough with my very cheap normal rate gyro until I do very hard 3D. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the CSM200HLG in My pro. It is not switchable, but I prefer it that way. You just need more rudder input in the turns.
