Just thought I'd show a pic of my Clic flying wing - ermm acutally lets rename that non-flying wing (yet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ) !

Power levels are waaayyyyyy over the top, so I'm going to downgrade it for a bit!!!

EDIT - OK, so despite the board being down for God knows how long they still haven't worked out how to make it recognise file extentions - you'll have to make do with a crap little gif afraid!

VERY nice, where is your reciever positioned? i made the stupid mistake of putting it INFRONT of the lipos and its dead now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif(it wouldn't balance otherwise /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) but now i have it sorted i think (just need to save up for a tiny RX) its a good thing in a way, the reciever weighed 13g

what equipment other than the CD motor (VERY nive BTW) are you using on it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

thanks for sharing

Cheers GP.

All the electronics are sunk into the wing - the rx is Sao's old Act rx, embedded under the wing on the left side, P10 is sunk in on the opposite wing to balance, all wiring recessed and channelled underneath.

Lipo's are slightly recessed into the top of the wing just to make sure they always go back in the same place - I'm going to make an aerodynamic lid for them if the thing ever gets in the air! Thinking I might make a new lighter motor this evening, and mount it right over the C of G so I can use 3 cell 340's, but we shall have to see on that one!

how much heavier is it than stock? i am questioning the sticking outness of the lipos, i think your getting it in the air problem can be because of these, these little wings need all the airfoil they can get and having the lipos sticking out will wreck the airflow, the difference between my wing flying and hitting the dirt was that mine used to be very wrinkly! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif remove the wrinkles and it was ok!

my PCW has a caseless ACT micro nine in ATM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ill probably get a webra for it although an ACT micro 4 would be better for me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

dont know - there doesn't seem to be a "stock" weight - mine is almost 2 oz heavier than Sao's, but still 1/2 oz lighter than a couple I have seen in a video.

Dont think the liths are the problem - on the instructions they are mounted below but not recessed in the slightest, which would cause just as much interference with the airflow.

I'm still pretty sure it's down the reflex not being right and me being a bit inept with reactions!!

Yep my liths hang out in the wind and it hand launches nice and easy, hell i can even fly it almost as slow as bodges IFO. And it will glide along nicely and will fly at a crawl with the prop barely turning on a notch or two of throttle

Mine is lighter than Dongles though and my first flights were on the stock set-up so that i could get used to flying it BEFORE sticking on a huge motor and prop /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The reflex in the instructions is something like 25mm but i've had to reduce mine a lot from then otherwise it would just loop all day from neutral stick.

Maybe you've unbalanced the aerofoil by having the liths on top and not underneath causing stability problems? Not that i have ANY idea about planks whatsoever.

C of G should be on the spar or a tad behind it if you can handle it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

yeah yeah yeah /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

As you say, reflex in the instructions is large - I discovered that after re-reading them after chatting to you. unfortunately I didn't read it right first time round....

I'm sure somewhere in the PCW instructions it says something about limiting total elevator throw to about 5mm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I dont recall the exact measurement for elevator throw in the PCW manual, but it is mentioned in there. I have the elevator mix set to 35%, with full throws on the aileron channel for my PCW.

well she's all back together - at least sort of, I'm not going to do a top notch job on it till I have accertained I'm not going to stuff it into the floor in 5 seconds again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've added about 3 times the amount of reflex that was on there, gave it a throw without power to see what happens....

and we have a perfect landing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not the longest glide in the world - obviously a fair bit of weight there, but it was not much above walking pace, went about 15 ft and landed in a nice slide. I think we at least have SOMETHING too work with now!!

so, dont know when the next test flight will be as I have still to repair the damage to the motor, but hopefully in the next few days!

excellent! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif when i get my props and stuff i too can fly my wing once more
my PCW weighs 152 grams BTW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif its slightly fat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

If you think thats fat I'm not telling you what mine weighs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

hey i didn't say it was VERY fat

awww c'mon please tell /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Bear in mind the PCW and Clics are different kits the Clic has a plywood keel for extra strength and a slightly longer wingspan.

Regardng reflex and throws on the Clic

I have about 6mm reflex at neutral stick on my clic and the throws are maxed out for acro and are WAY more than 5mm more like 30mm.

The 15ft glide into a slide landing sounds ideal this is how it should behave from a gentle toss /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The pcw has a ply keel as well - it also has the glide of a potato.

would that be a baking potato, or maybe a jersey new potato? I hear the king edwards go quite well /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh yeah it was the spars i was reffering to i'm pretty sure the PCW uses CF tape and not rods for spars could account for a little extra weight on the clic

guinea_pig2
04.06.04, 15:13
my PCW has a CF spar and a cool moulded plastic keel, i have the version 2 BTW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

hank
04.06.04, 21:26
the version2 has no plywood, just a CF spar and lexan keel/motor mount. mine comes in at 155g with the addition of a heat sink to the motor. here is my latest:

First proper flights with the Clic today! Couple of teething problems like when I changed the rx I connected it up wrong /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Other than that, the thing screams! fastest thing I have flown, and it was only running the 4x2.5 till I get some more 4x4's.

Good for unlimited virtical, and unlimited consecutive loops, while still getting about 1/2 hour flying from one 3 cell 1200 pack /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have a new favourite plank /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I can't wait for my Johnsons to arrive and then the CD Rom, I'm finding the limited power of the GWS setup on my PCW irritating even at my level of crashing, sorry flying /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

guinea_pig2
13.06.04, 23:08
ahh so its not only me then! on my 3X2 and on a heavy (16g reciever) the thing flies around in ground effect (i think the size of the reciever poking out wreck the airflow too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif)

smoothound: what RX are you using in your PCW? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Dongle: it great to hear your clic is really fast and powerful! you must clock it someday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Mines OK flying around, weighs around 140g, it's just not got the power to pull loops from level flight or go vertical. I wouldn't worry about the airflow too much my batteries are on the top as I thought, after consultation with others, that the wing would be too weak with them inside it.

Jeti Rex 5 Plus but it glitches like crazy sometimes, soon as I can afford I'll put a Schulze in it

guinea_pig2
14.06.04, 20:45
how did you get it so light!?

i have 6g servos a light 5 amp esc and the 1200 batteries! i wonder why mine is soo heavy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif i think its 160 ok so i should be able to get it to 150 but /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif i don't like the fact that it only just flies /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

smoothound
14.06.04, 22:32
700 Lipos probably but yours should fly OK with 1200's. I've got 1500's to go on whhen I get round to braving making the packs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

guinea_pig2
14.06.04, 22:37
ahhh i may try the 700's on my PCW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif as well as a lighter reciever! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

thanks for all of that, i think my 1200's will go on when it goes brushless /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

smoothound
14.06.04, 22:42
I'll let you know how mine flies with 1500's but mine blasts around on 700's and they last long enough for me. Balancing is a bit tricky but possible. Maybe you have a duff motor? I'm sure if I put 30 or 40g on mine it would still fly ok I'd just lose duration. The only thing mine won't do is pull loops from level flight and go up vertically.
