View Full Version : Help - Ikarus Mini Gyro Mounting ??

G'Day,
I'm planning to mount an Ikarus Mini Gyro on my ECO 8 on a tail boom mounted rudder servo using servo tape.

If I'm looking at the side of the ECO 8 (nose on the my left, tail rotor on my right) I think that the gyro should be mounted on its side with the lable facing me. The writing on the lable will be vertical i.e. running up/down.

Assuming that this is correct should the servo socket, located at the bottom of the gyro face, be on the fuselage side (i.e. the left) or the tail rotor side (i.e. the right)???

It's all a bit confusing to explain....if anyone could send me a photo showing their gyro set-up that would be great !

Take a look at the photos of my Eco 8 at http://www.bernard.u-net.com/eco8/
This may be of help to you.

I used those photographs to set up my ECO8 ( i'm stll a newbie ) and found them more helpfuly than I can say. But since I use a Futaba FF6 tx the Gyro had to be mounted up the other way, rudder servo is reversed, the best way to locate the gyro is mount it loosely and check which way the gyro is working, if it's worong mount it up the other way, or in my case on the other side of the fuz with the cables routed as neatly as in the photo.

Thanks for the feedback....I think some experimentation will be required ! I'll try a loose fitting using cable ties to begin with.

I also have a Futaba FF6 TX.....Gordon, what Swashplate setting did you use ?

Cheers,
Fox.

Ah.....

When I first built my ECO I used the mechanical mixer and failed to have any controllable flight in almost every respect.
Although I'm very new to all of this I thought the ECO was a much better behaved heli than the one I had built and that I should be able to control it a bit better than it was behaving so ..

I then bought the ALI 120 degree swash plate .... much much better. I was imediately able to 'hover' my little bird.

I used Swash Plate Type 3 ( the CCPM ) setting.

I hope this is helpful
