View Full Version : motor mounting.
I am trying to install the sport motor in my ECO8, but the motor gear will not mesh with the main gear even with the motor moved to its farther extent toward the main gear.
I am using the motor gear that came with the kit.
Am I doing something wrong? Is this common?
What can I do?
Any info would help.
I am at a stand still in the build process and am looking forward to finishing.
Thanks
Fenster,
I had the same problem, Ikarus doesn't care. Just get a Dremel tool or jewelers file and lengthen the slots for the screws that secure the motor. The geometry of the slot is not proper for the sport motor. Be sure to use thick plastic bag or two layers of a regular plastic bag to ensure sufficient gear backlash. Only use the sport motor to get the ECO-8 dialed-in then switch to a Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem Reverse. The sport motor is a very short life motor and lasts just long enough to get the ECO flying smoothly. I wish Ikarus would keep their sport motor and lower the price of the kit or add an autorotation clutch and 11T, 12T and 13T pinions.
Robert, thank you very much for your help.
I filed the slots with a needle file and the motor now fits. I wish Ikarus would address this problem seeming that the 'sport' motor is recommended with the kit, or at least add a troubleshooting page with the required modifications on the site.
