here is my version of the gonzo pitch mod http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1265615&a=11597730&p=41082348
it is only at the development stage so hasnt been tested out yet.

my theory is that as torque is created in the blades it will increase the pitch enabling the pitch to be at a lower setting during lower speeds so the blades will spin faster making the chopper more stable.

I plan to spring load the torque rods to get the right setting and cut the blades to get the fastest spin speed at the lower setting.

i am still pressuming that when the torque from the blades is created the blades will tilt the right way to increase the pitch,my mind was starting to overload just trying to think it out so i decided just to go ahead and make it.

As you can see from the photo the blades twist on thier own axle but are counteracted to each other with the bar connecting them.
under the plastic clamps are bushed tubes so they can tilt freely,i was going to spring load the connector bar as to stop the blades from tilting up at the ends but not much movement is needed to change the pitch so i might be able to get away with it.

Thankyou gonzo for introducing the idea ,it has kept me busy whilst the bb is down although after all the thinking it has only taken a couple of hours to put together.

will let you know if it works or if it gets added to the back of the shelf http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif.

Okay i just did the first test flight, now just consider how much time and effort goes into balancing and tracking ones chopper.

I didnt want to dissmantle my present set up so i used a piano wire for a flybar and a set of gonzo v2.0 arms and was able to just pop it onto the hub. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1265615&a=11597730&p=41086956

she flew amazingly everything in track (blades and paddles)and with no vibrations,it seemed a lot quieter from blade noise and flew very solid two feet up but below this it was not so good ,best described as a rocking motion(not porpoising cause it could go in any direction).

it is hard to tell if the auto torque is working as like gonzo i dont have a tachometer (but i know a guy with one so will try to borrow it)but definetly not achieving the solidness at ground level that i hoped for but at normal height control and stability was excellent(i have a suspicion that the pitch is getting less with more throttle not the other way around)but i will experiment with the spring settings as these ones are quite stiff .

all in all i am amazed to have two free floating blades that just took off from the board without any adjustments for tracking(maybe the spring set up is allowing the tracking to nuetralize itself)and had very solid flight at height, amazed how much attention to detail i have spent in the past in this area just to knock it together and get such a good result.

Tommorow i will tamper with the spring set up but am still unsure if the torque to that area of the blades is the same as the torque that is transposed to the tail(moves to the right without any rudder). http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif

Easy, now, Will; don't overdo it. And don't forget to eat & sleep, OK? Your mod looks really wild. If you need to escape from your laboratory for a short laugh, see the recent post; "The Piccolo Forum"...

Wooooooowwwwww!!! Will, you told me you were going to work on it but it was soooo fast! Now I can't go to sleep http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif. It's ingenious the way you made the blades to rotate. I kept thinking I had to destroy my head (literally and figuratively) to make this work. You can always go back to the way it was with your setup. It's just brilliant the way you utilized the existing head stiffener and pitch adjustment screw holes for this mod. Keep us posted on your development.

I'm in a process of replacing the dental floss with music wire linkage in order to gain more control in pitch adjustment. Hopefully I can post some more photos later.

Thanks gonzo!yes i didnt want to destroy a good head and it all just seemed to flow together .gonzo your a true purist to notice i used the pitch adjustment holes for the screws, the plastic clamps are actually caed as well but not a problem to cut off if i decide to scrap it ,all i was trying to do was get it to a stage where i could make that decision with out going to far,so far its looking good http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif.

sleep!its 3am here and we just found a naked guy trying to climb up a bush outside in our garden, after we got the dog of him we asked what the hell are you doing and he replied im trying to get to new zealand(only abut 1000 miles of course)i was going to tie him up and torment him with my piccolo but after being attacked by rupert, my wife thought hed had enough and called the cops to take him home(spoils all my fun http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif).
