Seperate component gurus, help!

I'm trying to power my Piccolo with two FMA-5 ESCs. I am using all of the pos, neg, signal wires to the RX and I soldered the positive battery leads together and to my red battery wire, ditto with the neg leads. For some reason, my main motor won't turn. The tail motor works, and I swapped the ESCs and the tail motor still worked, so I know I don't have a faulty ESC in the mix. Anyone know how I can get this thing to work? It's really frustrating.

Hey wait, put down that barbell for a second! it looks as though the tail motor ESC has two power leads going to the elevator servo, which has a signal wire going to the RX. Is that right? Why are those two wired together?
