Newhelinut,
Let me be the first to welcome you to our little group of ECO 8 flyers.
Now I have been flying electrics for 15+ years and have never put a motor in water yet. I just run them for 10 min. or so on 2 D cell batteries. As far as the motor you are going to be using, Well you can break it in if you want but why bother it will most likly be toast in less than 10 flights or attemt at flights. They just dont hold up to the demand the heli has. But its a learning step so go ahead and use it. Then save your pennys for a brushless like the rest of us are using. (Well,Most) Then you will have a motor that will not get hot will always run nice and is maint. free for almost a life time. They say someday the bearing may go bad, but mine gets no less than 10 flights a week and sometimes up to 33 thats my record in one week. I have yet to replace anything. I have more fun with this motor than I have with my wife in the past 2 years. (Is that a bad thing) HEY, Get your minds out of the gutter guys.
Dave

Anyone -

Regarding the "water break-in" method - I have been advised that to break in the standard SPORT Heli motor (it's for the ECO8, when I "graduate" flying the Piccolo!), I should rig up a couple of disposable C-cells and let the motor run these dry, then I'd have a broken in motor. If this is true, would I be as well off to do this with it submerged, then re-lubricate the motor, as some have suggested?

My ASS-umption is that the submersion method should work for all(?) brushed motors?

Anyone, please advise if you know, or comment - my ignorance is documented, so don't spare me.....

Thanks,
- NewHeliNut

P.S. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have spent the majority of time on the Picco BB - SO FAR!. http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/images/icons/wink.gif

rd...what brushless configs are most using?? in the 8...an water to break in the motor wont hurt it. but it will help last a few more flights. but you have to understand that bushing motors are what we call "throw away motors" an when you get $ you get a better motor an throw the stock one away!! im very curious on brushless motors...im looking at an astro flight b motor...but the expense is what has detered me for years. im trying to find a motor as we speak that is close to brushless without the cost....unless you know more about em than i think i know hehehehe!! LMK i wouldnt mind knowing which brushless motors youve tried an like....so i dont have to spend 500.00 just to find out i messed up...heheheh...im new to the eco 8 but not to this hobby an i learn something new daily..an i enjoy this BB!!
thanks,
Jim

Jim,
I have only used the Aveox brushless. A good friend of mine in NY has used both Aveox and the Ikarus brushless. He has since returned to the Aveox. In his opinion the Aveox gets more time. 2 mins. more time. I have no exper. with the Astroflight brushless. As a mater of fact I dont think they know which motor to use in the heli. I already asked them. All I got was a (it should work) answer. Like you I am not going to dump 4 or 5 hundred in a motor just to see if it should work. Its your choice, shop around ask lots of questions, soon you will find what you want without having to buy other motors first. Like I said the 1406 3Y has been great to me. I havent really talked to many people that are using the 1010 2Y so I really dont know how it performs. (Wish I did) If you want a Ikarus X250H and controller I can get you my friends for 225.00 plus shipping. It only has 8 runs on it on 10 cells.
