Default super tiny brushless motor

ive just found an outrunner brushless motor with an outside diameter of 1.9 cm !!
it came from a laptop floppy disk drive

i will weigh it with the backplate and try and get some photos this evening. its probably lighter than an IPS, might make a good brushless tail rotor system!

That's pretty darn small!!!! I hope you've got small hands if you're thinking of rewinding and remagneting it!

I always thought floppy disk motors were huge! Oh well! Get those pics uploaded ASAP!

yeah this is from a portable floppy disk. the motor spun a big drum on a belt drive. the only reason i found it at all was because i saw the belt that it was driving. just gotta wait for dad to get back with his cam

I hope it wasn't your Dad's laptop that floppy drive came from!

That is the same motor I converted to use on my fixed pitch. It works great with 19 turns and a 10 tooth pinion. I put ball bearings in it and use a carbon fiber shaft. I used epoxy to glue the 2 mm shaft to the bell. It has loads of power and the magnets that came on it work perfectly.

Oh I see! You could stick it on a plank and use it to clear the air at Farnborough before I try to fly my Moth - that'd be a good use!
