Default A useful tip when linking to threads on this board

As you may have noticed, links that are given by the latest search function on this board are horribly long. For example, this was one of the links given by a search for 'Homemade Bell 212' for the user 'Hogster':

http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbth...458&Forum=,f1,&Words=Homemade%20Bell%20212&Searchpag e=1&Limit=25&Main=289458&Search=true&a mp;where=sub&Name=3404&daterange=0&new erval=&newertype=&olderval=&oldertype= &bodyprev=#Post289458

Ecch Too long. It's so long in fact, that it messes up the BBS code if you try to use the function - see!

What I usually did if I wanted to use one of these long URLs was to go to the thread in question, note down the date of the last post, go back to the main list of threads and go back through all the pages of posts until I found the one in question. This took bloody ages and it prompted me to look for a better way to find a link for threads returned from the search function.

It really couldn't be simpler! This link:

http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbth...458&Forum=,f1,&Words=Homemade%20Bell%20212&Searchpag e=1&Limit=25&Main=289458&Search=true&a mp;where=sub&Name=3404&daterange=0&new erval=&newertype=&olderval=&oldertype= &bodyprev=#Post289458

Can be shortened to:

http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbth...;Number=289458

just by getting rid of everything in bold:

http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB1&Number=289458&Forum=,f1,&Words=Homemade%20Bell%20212&Searchpag e=1&Limit=25&Main=289458&Search=true&a mp;where=sub&Name=3404&daterange=0&new erval=&newertype=&olderval=&oldertype= &bodyprev=#Post289458

So if you delete everything after the second &, it'll be nice and short and it'll allow the URL BBS code - suchly!

Well I think it's useful .... gawd I must be pretty damn bored to do this!

Neeeeeed sleeeeeeeeep

Hope someone finds it useful!

Hm. I've never had problems pasting the unfeasibly long links into the URL box, with a short name for the link.

Oh well ... perhaps they fixed it Still, it's good to know just in case you wanted a short link!

Or you can just name it link or thread like this: THREAD

I don't think it's the name you give the link that's the problem - it is (was) the length of the URL that caused the problem.
