Hmmm.
Seems to me that maybe making your own flybarless C.P. might be a better deal than getting the Ikarus one. I for one like the idea of not having a flybar due to the fact you have that much rotational mass. Plus from what I have seen the rpm of the heads are similar on the ikarus and a homemade one. My biggest question is which will fly better. I want to have a piccolo that will be able to do rolls, loops and inverted flight. Will the flybarless c.p. do this. Do you think the Ikarus one will. Ihave seen the picture ikarus put out butttt.... Anyway tell me your thoughts, P.S. What tail hubs are you guys using to create the flybarless C.P. and where do you get them? Thanks Ryan Fritts |

I don´t think either of these CP kits will do what you whant... I don´t think you can roll with a pic...
inverted, ok... looping, that´s ok to roll, no way! you have to come up with a new heli in that case... perhaps the Hornet can do a roll with the CP upgrade but I´m skeptical... but ofcourse... maby I´m wrong... prove me... /Philip [This message has been edited by Philip Thulin (edited 10-31-2001).] |

Has anyone out there actually flown a pic inverted or done a loop? with the flybarless C.P. I guess I'll have to deal with no rolls but i don't think i can deal without a loop or inverted especially if its C.P.

I think the issue is power. My CP Piccolo does not have enough power to achieve a roll rate that would get me all the way around fast enough. Plus, it has flat bottomed blades that will not develop much lift inverted.
HOWEVER, I have flown it on 8X250 mAH NiCds, and I think that combo has PLENTY of power for short aerobatic flights with symetrical blades. Just haven't had the guts to try it. ------------------ Paul Goelz pgoelz (at) eaglequest (dot) com AF010 brushless motor, 8 cell NiMh, collective pitch modification Visit my Piccolo web page And check out the Troubleshooting guide Also, see my flybarless collective pitch Piccolo page |

my experience is that it is easier to do a roll than to do a loop. I have done both many many times (with a Pixel). Problem with loop is that you need power to lift it upwards, and power is not what we have too much off. With a roll, you do not need more power while doing it as long as you maintain speed. But rolls are more difficult to fly, because you need to make it maintain speed. Therefore you need to decrease pitch while going inverted and pulling the nose down (yes!). The latter is not a natural reflex of our thumbs. However, if not done that way, the heli will almost fore sure stop flying foreward once on the back and that is where trouble usually begins.

For a rotor head I'm using the tail hub from an electric concept. Got the parts from www.towerhobbies.com. I also had to get 4 2x5 ball bearings. I forgot if the hub and arms are separate.
As for loops and rolls, I've never tried them. I know someone who has done a loop with an FP Pic, but he used up a lot of altitude. So it should definatly be possible with with either version. The flybarless has more rotational inertia due to the tip weights which are probably heavier than the ones that will be in the Ikarus version. ------------------ CP Flybarless Piccolo, NEE083001 JR XP8103 radio GWS 6CH RX Schulze 18be ESC (using Jeti, temporary) powering an AF010 brushless motor Modified JMP HF9 tail ESC & GWS PG-03 Gyro 3 HS-50 Servos Nath's one-way mod 7x250mAh Panasonic cells, flight time-----------5:15 8x250mAh Panasonic (black) cells, flight time----3:45 8x720mAh Sanyo (green) cells------------------11:34 http://students.db.erau.edu/~ellere/...ess/Index.html |
