After a long time of flying the piccolo, I just cut my stock blades. I pretty much followed the instructions of cutting 3mm from the tip to 8mm to the root. Now here is the problem. The piccolo obviously has a much faster head speed BUT thats it. It just blows around the air and is not able to get even an inch off the ground. I don't think this is a problem with the batteries or anything since with the original blades, everything was fine.
So my question is should I toss out these blades or is there some mod I can do to them to get it to start flying. Also has anyone tried the piccolo outdoor blades sold by ikaruscanada. Let me know. Thanks. Vipul |

Did you change the pinion? I'll bet you need to use a pinion one tooth higher. All things being equal, I doub't your blades are spinning fast enough to lift off.

If you were using an 8 tooth pinion I'd go to a 9. If using a 9 I'd go to the 10. If it won't lift off with the 10 you probably have another problem but I'll bet you don't have a high enough head speed yet.

there are three methods that i can think of right now.
1.-easiest, but not the best way-place two or three small pieces of tape on the blade in back of the mounting hole (trailing edge), this tilts the back of the blade down. 2.-easy way-better than #1- take a wire lug and grind it down so that the edge of the washer area, away from the lug is thinner than it is near the lug. Mount that in between the blade and the rotor head and position the lugs toward the trailing edge. 3.-the best way- use j's pitch adjuster mod which requires two (or in your case 1) tiny screws(either2-56 or 2mm), one in front and one behind the mounting hole in the rotor head. then you can adjust the pitch and tracking however you want it in small increments. there's a diagram of it on robert lee's CF blade website. http://uk.geocities.com/robert_lee_uk_2000/ here's apicture of where to drill and tap the holes: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewP...p=44405467&f=0 hope this helps........ ------------------ johnk NJJ011101 |

John,
Can't seem to read the bright green writing. Can you provide a better image or description ------------------ Malcolm G-MC030201 |

the bright green is just pointing to where you drill and tap the holes. the first versions of this mod had them directly in front and behind the blade mounting hole (180deg.)
the newer version (pictured) shows the relocation of the holes outward (from the center of the holes. the bright green writing says "60 degrees" (from the centerline). this allows you to set the tracking on the blades easier by reducing the coning angle on one or the other while still increasing or decreasing the pitch. the picture is from j's photpoint album. The red dots indicate where to drill and tap the holes for the tiny screws. hope this helps. ------------------ johnk NJJ011101 |

I'm still mystified by persistant reports of inability to lift off with cut blades. Mine flew great with the stock motor.
So.... what is your AUW/cell count/cell type/gearing for the combination that will not lift off with cut blades? For comparison, mine was about 240-250 grams AUW, 7 cells, 250 mAH Panasonics, 9 tooth main and tail pinions, stock motor. Lifted off great and flew slightly longer than the stock blades. I'd sure like to figure this out, since we recommend blade cutting as one of the first mods! ------------------ Paul Goelz pgoelz (at) eaglequest (dot) com Piccolo web page: http://www.eaglequest.com/~pgoelz/piccolo1.html [This message has been edited by pgoelz (edited 04-30-2001).] |
