Default Phoenix 10 setup....

Hi all.

just recieved an astro and since i'm totally new to BL, acouple of questions for you guys out there....

1) Throttle type for CP in which governor mode (high rpm or low). my setup is 11t pinion to 100t main gear

2) Cutoff type- hard or soft?

i presume for 1) it's low rpm and since my main is 100t rather than the reccomended 110t also as the head speed for the picc is lower compared to its peers and 2) should be soft rite?

just need to confirm.

I think you are correct on both counts. Let us know how the governor mode works. The older Phoenix's were hard to set up because the governor mode only started working at higher speeds than what are usable on a Piccolo.

i believe that all Phoenix's shipped (from Castle to the dealer) after 11/25/02 will have the latest siftware, so you might ask your source when they got their shipment in.

i got mine from Steve Campbell at dreamhobbies.com about a week ago and it's the latest version.

will do.

just waiting for the hf9 to come in tomorrow.

from the manual though it seems that soft cut off would be preferred especially if you don't have an one way gear.

Paul, I far as I can tell the governor works great. It starts at very low rpm, say 1/3 throttle on my JR. I can hear the motor throttling up and down to maintain speed. Sorry it's not much to go on. My new bl set up is not anywhere tuned. I had it flying for about a minute trying to set up my revo mixing when my x'mitter batt died. I foolishly ignored the low batt warning I just needed a few more seconds (famous last words). The jmp just went to full tilt, everything else just froze. Now I'm out of pair of blades. Lucky no one at Steve x'mas fun fly got hurt. I'll post rpm data etc. when I get a chance to tach it. BTW the start up is comparable to the Piccoboard to me.

well was hoping for about 1800 or so, can't really tell even if i reach 1800 and above (no tachy)but i usually judge by the sound and the stability of flight.

my other settings are

low voltage set at 5.0V
current limit at standard
diabled brakes
Throttle gov. at low rpm
Electonic timing adv at standard (reccomended?)
soft cut off

haven't flew bl in cp yet (broke the blades while trying to change the covering....*sigh*) so flying in fp now at fixed throttle till i can get a new set of CP blades....

Not sure where Lion City is, but if it is in a location that has 60 Hz power, fly under flourescant lighting and watch the blades. When you see the four spoke shadow come to a stop, you are at 1800 RPM.
