Default Practise Makes Perfect!

Well maybe not perfect, but I have finally crossed another Piccolo barrier after over 6 months of practise.

Learning to hover was quite difficult about 3-4 weeks of practise most nights. I then began to learn nose ins and after a few months was able to do piroequets (spelling).

Anything more than a few second nose in was harder. You really have to keep at it and at the same time deal with all the frustrations of trying different motors, mods, fixing re fixing batteries etc etc. To be honest it gets to a point where you just want to give up and sell the lot! Well maybe only the odd thought to do that

Today I have now managed to do sustained nose in hovers For me this has been almost a big a buzz as first being able to do a sustained stable hover.

It's envolved hours of practise and patience. I guess if I had to sum it up as to how I got here it would be :

1. Hours of practise
2. Use some sort of PC sim
3. A well trimmed Piccolo
4. Tiny stick movements
5. Antcipating the Pics movement and adjusting before it happens (very hard)

But most important and really part of the fun is keep posting and reading here.

Well now I can nose in going clockwise I have to learn anti clockwise I have also not really flown outside much and have yet to learn circuits So I guess compared to many others here I am still a newbie

Regards

Jerry

Tom LOL

I know you joke, but the part about anticipating the Pic movement, is almost like the force it really does take practise practise practise until you just sort of know where and how the Pic is about to move.

Cool, I'm just starting to get mine to hover within a smaller (3/4 feet) circle tail in but have now hit another wall as my charger(SuperNova) is refusing to charge my NiMh packs properly, keeps deciding they are charged when they are not and as it is a new replacement for one that went pear shaped I am now think of using something else

Firstly you are not using Auto charge are you ? If you are you will cook your Nimh's you need to set the charge to manual and definately no more than 1C

The false/early stop in charge may also be an indication that one or more of your cells is dying/dead. That happened to me as did the above.

Jerry

No I'm using manual set to 700mAh on 700mAh cells both 7 and 8 cell packs. I've just discharged/charged an 8 cell pack and looking at the record on the SuperNova it shows 618mAh discharge and 41mAh charge. I don't think I'll swap it for another one bad one I can accept but 2 is taking the p***. Just to check I've just split the pack that first showed up the problem and each cell is showing 1.35V after repeated attempts to fully charge...

LOL Tom , I said that to myself as I read the begining of this post. It's true, you have to use the farce, I mean Force. A stable nose in hover on a Picco does require some serious brainpower. Which why I'm not good at it!

Congradulations Jerry. I do think it's good to learn everything from either direction. I have trouble with slow circles and nose in, turning right. Brain fade I guess.

You are doing far better than I. I have logged well over 100 hours now and still cannot hover. The best I'm able to do is about 15 sec in circles without even *trying* to tackle yaw control. Most of the time I feel I'm not even in control of the Pic.

You deserve a big congratulations!!

Scot, you'll do much better if you make yaw control your priority. If the Piccolo remains "tail in" at ALL times, there's no need to think about orientation of the sticks. Right is RIGHT STICK....left is LEFT etc. If it looks like the tail is moving and you can't stop it, put the Piccolo down and start again.
