Default WD-40

I can see that some of you run the main motor
in WD-40. HOW and WHY? Do you do it the same way as in water? and if you do, how do you get all that oil out of the motor again, isn´t it a mess?

I haven´t got a Piccolo yet, but I got the simulator today "Easyfly plus Piccofly" and I´m looking foreward to try it tonight.

I started this trend so:
You should run in your motor first, in water if you want to. Then after 5-10 packs WD-40 is a good way to clean and oil your motor. I would recommend taking it apart and clean it or just dip it in WD-40. There are some holes in the motor so it's no problem getting it out and if there still are some left in the motor it will vaporize by it self

Don't run the motor in WD-40, we are not sure yet if it is safe!

The WD-40 I have is in spray, so would it not be an idea to take the motor apart, and drill a small hole on each side (2mm) and then give it a spray now and then.

I have been thinking about what mods. I should make, if any. I was thinking about the mods that makes it more stable, I know some of the mods are for experts, but as I understand you, it is a little unstable right of the box. Why not make 1,2 or 3 mods right from the start, if it could make life a bit easier. What I meen is, you didn´t learn to ride a bike on flat tires, did you?

It´s just a thought, I´m not the expert, and maybe I have given it all up, after I have tried the simulator. I´ll let you know.

The spraying in holes is a good ide, just remeber to mark the magnets so you get them in same position when you put them back.

My friend did the flybar bearings and cut blades on his new piccolo, and balanced everything. It was very stable right away.

The reason for not making mods before you have had some flights is that if you don't know how it works you won't know if you did something wrong

WD 40 is a solvent (i think), does any improvement stem from the cleaning of debris from the commutator??
would a teflon based dry lube (mountainbike chain lube tytpe) improve things as it is a lubricant?? :-)

WD-40 both clean and lube. Any lube you use has to be very thin.

from WD 40 Website

"What does WD-40 contain?
While the ingredients in WD-40 are secret, we can tell you what WD-40 does NOT contain. WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents."

How is WD-40 different from 3-IN-ONE®?
WD-40 is the ultimate multi-purpose problem solver. WD-40 cleans/degreases, penetrates to loosen up stuck parts, prevents corrosion and is a light lubricant.

so J is right
both cleans and is a light lube

have just put some teflon lube in the motor, now runs with a constant pitch, not rattling

I have heard good things about a teflon based lubricant called tri-flow. You can get it at your local bike shop. I just picked some up.

Be careful with the Tri-Flow, it contains Trichloraine 1,1,1. This is very nasty stuff, it will attack the laquer finish on the armature windings, resulting in fire sometimes. Just letting you know. Thx, Eric S.
