Hi guys.
i just converted my FP into brushless mod with PB+ ( coz i burned another HF9....) with a direct tail drive using GWS Carbon Brushed motor with stock tail rotor powered by PB+. Problem is with a freshly charged 8 cell pack of 750mah, i can't get out of GE!!!!! Check almost everything such as, -flybar and paddles alignment -blade tracking -balance of blades (main and tail) -bent shafts -pack voltage -gear mesh tail was relatively solid but after a min or so in GE tail gets quite hot........ the set up is: -PB+ for gyro and tail -010 coupled with CC phoenix10 -11T pinion to 100T main -DD tail -stock blades (not cut) -total weight w/o batt = 211gms -with batt = 315gms i suspected the 010 i had was not the correct one in terms of the turns coz i could only manage about 5+ mins and another 3-4 mins in GE unless i let it rest for a sec or 2 after about 2 mins of flight each time then i could do abit better..... too heavy? wrong motor? insufficient pinion? dull batt? dull PB+? insufficient power to phoenix10 due to DD tail? dunno.......... check out the attachment on my DD tail.... p.s. sorry for the long msg

Although I can't guess the cure yet, Fly, I can say that the 010 has boatloads of power for FP. I get 11+ minutes on 8 x 750, with uncut Rob Lee blades, 10/96 gearing and 280g weight. My motor is the 16turn no longer listed on the Astro site.
315 does seem a lot, how does it go without the canopy? |

Could be a combo of weight and gearing. I have the 14 turn, 10/96 gearing, Rob Lee's blades with about 8mm cut off the ends(due to a large chip ). I'm getting about 7.5 mins on 350 mAh nicads(7 cell).

Hi JJ!
Well the canopy weighs in at 20gms there abouts but its been a long time since i've weighed it and will do it tonight but i suspect that my crash struts are to heavy (music wire bent here and there...) since i'm crashing less i'll swop it with 4 2mm cf struts tonite. most prob will swap my music wire flybar for a cf one too.... wow 280gms.... i've got about 35gms to cut.... Do you think my batts are too heavy? abt 105 gms. I've noticed that i could be slightly overgeared coz i see that you've stated 10T/96T....that's 9.6 rounds the pinion does per turn of the main gear but mines 11T/100T and that's 9.09 rounds per turn of the main gear which means my motor runs harder? but i'm not having enuff power!?! anyway will try a 10T tonite..... |

Hi hot4teach!
Most probably is. what does your's weigh in at? then again could be the batts (GP 750mah). Managed to find rayovacs and sanyo twicells locally (FINALLY!!) but no powerex...... ahhh....another using 10T/96T. but i've broken my original main gear...time to visit the LHS again... another thing is that both you and jj are using Rob lee's blades. but mine's stock. about to burn another big hole but i think they are no longer in production. |

In terms of efficiency and motor load there isn't a vast amount of difference in the blades, Fly, so don't panic
![]() About 100g isn't far out for 8 x AAA. I have a GP pack on trial, so far it seems a little weedy (runs rather warm) and not long flights. I'll give it some more use next time out. 180g for my heli is about 20g over stock weight, probably accounted for by my Bell u/c, tailboom and the brushless controller. |

Don't know how you do it JJ mine won't even consider more than half throttle if I go back to my RL blades without going into mad piros
Guess I'll have to cut them... |

All up about 275 grams. I have drilled out many holes in the chassis and tial motor mount.
