I have been flying with a 2+2 Kokam 1020 pack on my Orion. I have seen many post of people just using a 2 pack Kokam. What is best with the Orion? 2 + 2 Kokams or the 2 pack Kokams?

How long are you getting out of 2x2 kokams?? I'd think you must be marginal on power?
I get 18-21 min out of 1x2 and have less weight to throw around. Try it and see which you prefer. Cheers Glen |

Thanks for the response. When you say a 1 x 2 do you mean 2 cells in series or parallel? I suppose series because that adds the voltages. When you charge them do you charge the cells individually? Also, how about motor temp, how hot does your orion get? Can you touch it and leave your fingers on it without getting burned? I might break my 2 + 2 pack down tonight and give it a shot.
Thanks, Gary |

1x2 would mean 1 pack of 2 cells in series. 2X2 would be 2 parallel packs each having 2 cells in series.

I run a 2 cell kokam pack with my Orion. I tried the 2+2 but with the added weight it didn't seem to make a big difference. I think you are better off making two 2 cell packs and just switching them out when the first when dies. As far as the hot motor I made a homemade heatsink out of a coke can and also cut my canopy open more on the top to allow better air flow. Here is a picture...

back again, 1x2 Kokam in series not 2x2 Kokam two sets of series in parallel.
With regard to motor temp my motor has NEVER got past luke warm no mater what I've done but today, for the h##l of it, I added a heat sink to it and cut cooling holes in the canopy. Be interested to see if there is any improvement. Using a method which is not my idea I've come up with a neat system for making the heat sink suggested by someone a few days ago. Sorry, can't find the thread but if your interested I'll set up some pics. Remember , this isn't my idea, it's just my easy way of making the fins. Cheers Glen |
