If the wires are chafed far enough from the servo to terminate them there and put a new connector on (and still reach the rx) then I'd recommend that. If the chafe is close to the servo the method you used will be ok, but I'd paint over the tape with some nail polish to weatherproof it and keep the tape from coming off. (The latter could be especially bad in flight!) Glad to hear you got it worked out! Onward to the lessons!
