Can ANYONE tell me how to get the screws out of my Hitec HS-50's so I can change the servo heads? THEY ARE TIGHT. My hands arent strong, & I'm terrified I've stripped the little suckers.
If worse comes to worse, can I just use the stock servo heads? Thanks, any help greatly appreciated!! Lee |

i take it they're a philips (cross) head? knowing the size of those things you might have stripped them ... .... my only advice is to try harder to get them out - push down harder as well as twisting ... then once you've got them out replace them with bigger tougher ones (and if necessary slightly enlarge the screw hole in the servo) ....

If you are willing to sacrifice the servo head, cut away the surrounding area with a knife until you can grab the head with long nose pliers.
If the hole is stripped than you can A/ fill with epoxy and re-drill ( make sure the epoxy is properly cured) B/ use a small wooden splinter ( part of match stick) to act as a filler. Not too big though or you may split the servo axel. As there very little axial load on the actuator arm they do not need to be tight. Good luck |

If the screw is not turning at all, then you have not stripped it yet, it is just REALLY tight. Using the proper size of across-point screwdriver and strong pressure, try turning it out. Once the screw starts to turn, don't press so hard or you can strip it.
If the screw is already spinning but not coming out, then you have stripped something, most likely the servo. If the servo arm is still attached, use that to apply pressure to the underside of screw head (by pulling on it) as you turn the screw with the screwdriver. The screw should work out that way. You may need to pry up the servo arm a bit with a flat-head screwdriver to get you started. Once the screw is out, you can try the other suggestions as to restoring some screw grip to the servo. Good luck... |
