Default What a Great way to Start!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my Eco8 second hand. I know it flew as the guy I got it from flew it infront of me before I bought.
Anyway have been trying to come to terms with the controls and have been doing OK (i thought) with the training gear on.
Had a small crash yesturday where it caught a rotor tip on the grass but no damage.
Wish I could say the same about today. Took it out on the grass and am not letting it get any higher than 1-2inches from the floor.
Anyway one second everything as normal with me trying to control the direction at almost zero height, next thing its upside down on the grass. Tail boom badly bent from a couple of rotor strikes and a few of the ball joint had popped off the rotor head, there is a lump out of one of the blades (small indentatin in the wood with bit of plastic coating missing). There also seems to be a lot of slop between the motor and the rotor head (the play is not between the motor and the big gear(even though the big gear has a few teeth chewed)) and I dont know if it was there before the crash.

All this and I havent even got used to the thing properly.
AHHHGGG.
I feel like giving up but dont want to let it beat me!!!!!!!

I really need some help/ideas/tips.
Thanks

Paul

Paul...firsly, welcome to the mad house. If you're gonna sell it, now's the time, before you get totally addicted...you shouldn't really have bought it in the first place, it's probably too late now and you're going down the slippery slope with the rest of us.....just kidding..

Have you gone through Radd's lessons that can be found here.

Many new pilots have learned from these lessons without needing ANY repairs at all.

If you don't know, it's a site that many of us have contributed to, built and maintained by "Q" and others.
It's got to be one of the best sites for info on electric helis.

I felt like giving up everytime i crashed. I sucked it up and did what I have to do to fix it. If I coudlnt fix it, I would order the part. From my point of veiw, seeing a work of art, soemthing that took months to fiddle around to get it right, then suddenly it doesnt work feels like your a failure. THERE IS A CURE! NO PILL OR DOCTOR APPOINTMENT NEEDED! The cure is telling people what happend on this board, make a few list of questions of why do you think it happened or why do they think it happened, and use their tips and try it. I tell you, I have no helicopter skills but this board helped me accomplish this goal for the summer and also they made me feel like the part of there group. Dont worry about it, you will get it to fly like a dream if you keep working on it.

Oh yeah, do radds lessons. His lessons make your finger become one with the machine! Without radds lessons, my crash a few days ago would have been a totaled chopper. Also, Ive been making my own practice by imagining the helicopter in different weather conditions, sudden mal functions and all that neat junk you guys can think of. Doesnt really help of you dont ahve a creative mind but hitting the pool was a good thing because it was soft enough to not damage the rotor blades, and my quick finger prevented it from a tip over. Thanks for the replys.
I think I already am hooked even though I cant fly the things (yet...).
I am going to go through radds lesons if I ever get the thing airworthy again!!!
My main problems now are finding the damaged parts and replacing them and the setting it back up.

I also bought a piccolo pro from the local hobby shop (second hand) but the landing gear fell off that before I could start (it had been glued on before I bought) so that goes back to be sorted out tommorow so I may have something to practice with soon. The local hobby shop/flying club offers little to no support for helicopters.

Good luck and keep at it mate. The Pro is going to be an expensive nightmare to learn on. Have you seen how much the main rotors cost?! I'm selling mine as it simply costs too much to keep in the air for not enough reward.

Do Radds lessons. Everyone here will agree. You do have training gear don't you?

Also, download the manual, you'll know how to set it up and repair it.

You will get more help than you can deal with here...

As the others said...DO RADD'S LESSONS.

Be patient... It'll take awhile. It comes easy to some and harder to others...like myself, but I didn't give up and now I can fly. It's a great hobby and I couldn't have do it without this group!

You might want to use a simulator to get used to the sticks.

Yes, do Radd's Lessons! They will get you flying in no time! Also make sure you check all your shafts, especially the feathering shaft. These can be just slightly bent where you can't see it with your eyes, but you'll sure see it when you spool up and it looks like a hula girl on speed! Easiest way to check them is to pull them out and roll them across a piece of glass or other flat surface while watching for any light to appear underneath. You can check the feathering shaft in the heli by turning one end of it while watching the opposite blade holder. If it wiggles, it's bent.
