Well I dont have a disposable income and I am married lol so I will be fighting tooth and nail. But I am getting it for my birthday and am told it will be a waste of £200 as I will get bored and wont use it. So now I have to use it all the time to prove to my good lady that its not a waste of money hehe cant lose

Now I find out I need some way to power the charger...silly me assumed it would be mains powered. Is a car battery the best way to power it? If so whats my cheapest option on that and what type do I need? The charger I am getting in the deal is a GWS MC2002

Now I feel all bad.. Getting Darth Paul into the most expensive hobby on the planet ( OK the second most expensive, hes the one who decided to get married.. )

It'll be a close run contest to decide which is the most rewarding hobby

Hi Paul, you mad, impulsive youth you..
A car battery will do fine, if you have one handy, but it's a pain in the back to carry around, and you need a mains charger for it if you don't pinch the one off your car.
A mains 12 power supply will cost about 20 - 35 quid depending on spec. Make sure it has more amps available than you are going to put into the battery via your fast charger.

I took a power supply out of an old PC. Works a treat...

Hey there Darthpaul!!
Word of advice; Don't glue the tailboom!!!!! Thicken both sides with some superglue and wait till it dries. Then check if you have a tight fit into the main chassis and tail assembly. That way, IF you do break your tailboom, it will be a lot easier to replace it!
Also check out Radd's school of flight(think the link is in the welcome post? Or in paul's site under links. A DEFINATIVE MUST!!!!! ) You won't be sorry!!

Good luck mate, and keep us posted on your progress!!!

DarthPaul,

Welcome to addiction.

The GWS DC is a good little charger; affordable, and compact. I'm using it currently, but will be swapping out to a Triton in the near future to expand to Lithium capability (GWS MC2002 does not do lithium's, NiCd & NiMh only)

Check this out for directions; http://www.rcbatteryclinic.com (scroll all the way down on the left, there is an entry for PC power supply conversion)

I did this, this pastweekend, even cleaned it up all nice and desoldered any unnecessary wires... (was up until 3:30 AM in the wee hours of the night much to the dismay of my gf)

Couple of Binding post terminals from Radio Shack, a 12V Power switch I had laying around, and some rubber feet, and it looks just like a store bought 12VDC power supply, capable of a good 8 Amps at 11.95VDC.

I'll post pics later if they're requested.

Elton

I use this method and it is great. The inability to get a shattered tailboom out of my first chassis is why I purchased a second kit. OK, I needed a lot of spares, too.
