I've an ICS50 esc coupled to my gws h/a tail motor, gy240 gyro (with HH on). the nose always drift to the right. i don't have such a problem with my 8cell 700mAh NiMh batteries.
is the high voltage the cause of this drifting problem? u guys think DD or ducted fan can sove it? |

Update.
I experimented with DD with a "puller" setup (tail rotor blades on the left side of heli). The drift is now COMPLETELY ELIMINATED! But (there's always a price), tail motor is now RED HOT! Flight times halved. Dang. |

I really think that means the motor is spinning backwards - my DD tail gets red hot if you run it the wrong way - turn everything round so you can run the armature of the motor in the opposite direction and see what happens.....

i know some gws motors are timed to turn clockwise and some anti-clockwise. it just didn't occur to me! DOH!
thanks for the pointer, Neil! i'll do it tonight. Keep u posted of the results. |

Make sure the prop blades are working the correct side up. If backwards they will still work but badly. Old free-flight trick - fit the prop backwards to reduce thrust on an unthrottled engine.

Yes, if you swap sides then you MUST turn the prop round too, otherwise the motor and prop are working in opposition to one another. That's what generates the heat, because when the unit is a puller you should get extra cooling. I was told by my LHS that even the better DD motors are relative cheapies by normal standards, so they work just as well one way as the other.

oh yeah, thanks JJ & Enright. i've flipped the motor around but not the prop. the convex side of the blades is still on the left of the heli.
free flight JJ? is that a fixed wing thingie? |
