My piccolo finally arrived after an anxious 5 day wait. In the end i decided to get the kit from heli hobby, despite what i have read here i thought i'd give them a go. They did ship very fast but a small part of my order was missing. Luckily only CA glue. I think i will continue to use them though mainly due to the fast shipping... But anyway
So i opened the box and my first thought was how the hell am i going to build a helicopter from this. There has got to be bits missing! But as the night wore on it took shape and by 3:00am i had it kinda working, not flying or anything but it took me ages to get the channels worked out on the radio. So today i have been trimming and its slowly getting there i've had to take a break to charge the batteries, so i thought i'd give you all an update. I will keep you posted. But how good are these little things! |

Ok i've got it pretty much all set up now but i'm having trouble getting it off the groud even close to level. Should i just increase throttle and get it out of disturbed air or are they meant to be controllable in this low ground section. I'm also having troubles alligning the swashplate. Should i have it prependicular to the pole or parralell to the ground? the funny angled landing gear is giving me trouble. Any help much appreciated.

I think the swash should be perp. to pole for perfect balance. But it shouldn't matter that much. I too had great difficulty getting it off the ground level, but careful control of cyclic should make more than possible even with less than perfect balance/trim. Just keep practising, and throttle up gently.

Actually looking at the picture, you have exactly the same equipment as me! You may find it easier to get the centre of gravity further back (if thats a problem, it was for me), if you mount the battery the other way round, with the 2x2 clump of cells under the 96t gear. It shouldn't touch, but may be close. That way you'll be far less likely to tip over forwards on take off.

So i should not try to trim out the movement left by the tail rotor, just do it as it goes? I am noticing that the flybars need to be nearly prefectly straight, or it goes haywire. I wish the battery didn't take 2 hours to charge i will have to buy more.

The only charger i have is 180ma and its a 600mah battery pack. Its just one of those plug-in-wall-cheap-and-slow chargers

I think the wires going to the tail motor should be inside the boom, or at least taped to it !
