Default Tail motor problems at high throttle

Well i finally got a decent hover happening my record is about 30 secs but then i land because i'm so happy i start getting lazy on the controls. Don't give up anyone just keep plugging away you'll get it. If you get too distressed take a day off it helped me alot. So anyway i can get the thing into a pretty controlled hover but every now and then the tail motor just sort of gives up, it is pretty weak as it is (i have the mixer on full clockwise) but can usually handle the torque from the main motor, however if i'm comming down too fast and increase the throttle to avert a hard landing it can't handle it and the heli spins widly to the left. Does this just mean i need a new motor? even though i've only done about 12 batteries? i have stalled it a bit on carpet, grass and walls and i know they do break but i never expected it to go this early. i will definatlety be ordering spares.

I have been reading a bit on pauls site about the high frequency esc and am thinking of doing that upgrade but only if i can solder it myself. I'm also getting the heat sink to avoid overheating.

Are the pic pro motors worth getting?

Keep trying anyone with doubts you will get there!

hey what's up.
those little motors cannot handle stall outs,
it fries the brushes.
Heli Hobbies wes tek replacement motors last longer than the OEM motor, and if you put cooling fins on the motor you'll get quite a bit of service out of them.
After each flight i put the heli in front of a fan to cool the motor down and this system has made them last a long time.
I recently went to DD and i got to tell you it's the way to go, control of the tail is very excellent and MUCH more accurate, and the pro motor barley gets warm.
Good Luck!

I changed to the pro motor from the std fun pic motor using the std geared setup, but it kept coming loose all the time + with the extra weight, you will find it very difficult to keep the heli COG balanced. I quickly changed to a DD rotor and this is working very well so far. I did fit a heat sink just in case as alot of people have commented that the motor gets very hot.

So far so good.

I bought the official pro motor, but e-flight.co.uk do a GWS motor with 2 x DD props for 10.99 i think.

its a GWS IPS, it may comein a gear box, doesnt matter what ratio you get just take the motor out of the housing. What you will need is a pinion for it, 9th I think, doubt you'll get that at your LHS, I got mine from HeliHobby. Think its a 1.5mm diameter but you had better check.

ive got the prop, im sure that the pico pro motor will cost more than the bare motor. seems silly to mare more for hastle of having to remove those annoying brass pinions.

Oh I C you want DD, dont need a pinion then. If you heat the pinions up they come off pretty easily. Or just cut it off if you dont think you'll need it.

What cells are you using? There is a new 7.2v version of those motors now as well, if your on 3 liths try and get that one.

E-flight is your best bet then and you will get 2 spare props. I have broked quite a few already strangely - I never broke the std one?
