Default \"Moth\" update.... .. ... ..... ..

i just got my CF tail rotors for the moth from robert today. (please don't ask him for one, as he doesn't make them anymore).

rob was kind enough to send me the last of his rough cut blades and some CF stock to make my own out of, for the moth.

has anyone with his CF tail rotor blades noticed longer flight times? while i didn't actually time the test flight, it did seem at least another 30-40 secs. longer than w/the stock plastic one.

my only guess is that since it weighs less than half as much as the stock one (both are cut down), it may be causing the tail motor to draw less current to do the same job.

it weighs 1.3 grams less, and this is the beginning of the diet plan for the moth.

I have made a lighter tail motor harness (.7grams lighter) and a main motor harness (1 grm lighter) to go with the new CF skids (2grms lighter) and removed the tail fin (.8g).

if i remove the case to the GWS rx is should save at least another .3 grm which will make a total weight saving of over 5 grams with just these few mods. my goal is to remove an additional 6 grams. and i think it's possible (servo connectors, shrink on battery, lighten frame, etc.)w/o getting lighter electronics. i'll be doing these mods over the next few days and post the results.

i think J's piccolo must be the lightest one out there, so his being as light as it is, i can see no reason why the moth wouldn't be able to be even lighter(since it's smaller).

will,
are you talking about the battery's actual shrink label coating or the shrink around the whole pack?
i've heard of people removing it from the batteries but i would allow them to short out easier.
