Default MOTOR TURNS

Ok, I keep hearing people talk about how many turns there motor is and I just want to know what's the deal. Is a 10 turn better than a 14 turn and if so does that mean the lower the turn the better the motor? My friend Kenny has a Team Losi Electric car and he told me that the lower turn that he gets for his car the faster it is. So would this be true with brushed and brushless motors? I'm wondering because I currently have an Astro 10 14 turn in my FP and I'm planning on getting a new brushless motor for my CP Pic and I want to make sure that I get one with some good lifting power. I'm going to be putting a comanche with retracts on it and I'm going to need the power to pull of a loop.

i THINK the more turns the more torque but less rpm, and the less turns the more rpm but less torque. So i recon for your application i would go for the 14 turn, but don't quote me on this!!!!!!!!!

Use 14T on 3S lithiums, or so I am told...

More turns = more current = thicker wires = higher rpm/volt
Fewer turns = less current = thinner wires = lower rpm/volt

The 10t Astro 010 is spectacular with 3-cell Liths and a Pro - awesome headspeed! (apparently!)

The 14t is good for duration and more docile (but still powerful) flying.

How're you finding your 14t? If it's got gobs of power left then stick with the 14t. If you feel the heli is 'soggy' (technical word! ) then try the 10t.

More turns = Lower rpm/v

Less turns = Higher rpm/v

Power = VxI so less turns and thicker wire means less resistance and Higher power capability.

Oops I was far too tired to be doing anything other than sleeping when I typed that! Maybe I shouldn't come on here if I'm that tired!

The rest is ok, ya?

The less turns the more power and torque.
Single wind =more torque
double wind/triple wind =less torque ,more speed.
so a 14turn single will have more pep out of the corners but less straight line speed than the 14t triple(if we were using car motors in helis).
In helis there seems to only be one wind wich would make sense as we need the torque to keep the blades turning.

Oh blimey that whole statement of mine was totally screwed!! I couldn't have got any more wrong with it!!! This is how it was meant to read (sorry for any confusion! ):

More turns = Lower current = Thinner wires = Lower RPM/V
Fewer turns = Higher current = Thicker wires = Higher RPM/V

Damn I need to check my posts more carefully before posting them! Sorry chaps.

So when I make a CD-Rom motor I want to us a thick wire for about 10 to 12 turns. 3 wire system like what J. J. does

Ok, so thicker wire less turns is going to make the best motor.

Cool.
