Old enamelled wire?!

Anyone else here tried using old enamelled wire when re-winding their CDRom?

I've got some that is "brand new" in as much as it has never been used, but is at least 20 years old [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img] problem is I cant wind the stuff without the enamel cracking off. Just wanted to see if this was a problem due to age or because I'm doing something wrong!!!

It is quite thick for the application - 25 swg and I can *just* get 15 turns on the motor, but should have thought it should be able to wind that tight!

the only thing your doing wrong is trying to use twenty year old wire , the coating is laquer as i understand and it just gets brittle with age

I did notice parts of Dongle's joints flaking off as he moved around at the last Farnborough meet [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img] [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Fraid that coating will have passed its use by date by now [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
