After much reading and browsing I am eager to purchase my first heli. I dont't want to spend to much to start in case I don't get on with it. I looked at the Piccolo fun, but it seems expensive to upgrade to collective pitch. So have decided either Piccolo 2 in 1 or Piccolo Pro. I would prefer the Pro as it appears slightly better? Can I learn to fly with a Piccolo Pro? Is it posible to lock the CP while Learning?

Hi Pegasus,
If your just learning to fly go for the 2 in 1 and stick with it as a fixed pitch machine until you can fly confidently. Learning on a CP machine (either the pro or the cp 2 in 1) will be expensive, as when you crash it’s much more likely you'll need new parts. I don’t think it’s really an option to lock the CP to learn on, it undermines the whole concept behind a cp machine. It maybe possible to put FP blades on a CP head but I don’t think its worth it when the 2in1 machine can be kept as a Fixed pitch for now. Hope this helps |

Pegasus Xeo is right, Cp is expensive to crash in comparison to FP, but cheaper than pro.
There is no point in locking the pitch, as you'll end up with same vertical control as a fp machine i.e. throttle only, kind of defeats the object. get the 2 in 1 Eco kit, upgrade as and when you need to - you'll almost certainly end up with a CP/Pro anyway. I made the mistake of going Piccoboard Plus either go Pro Piccoboard or separates - this is where I'm heading next. If you need a good dealer try Midlands Helicopters ( http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/acatalog/m_index.htm ) they're very helpful and very reliable. Best of luck Ian |

I'm sure you can fly the CP machine in fixed pitch mode but you will have none of the advantages of the FP Piccolo..... most importantly the crash survivablity. And the higher head speed will make the throttle response slower since you will be dealing with much more inertia changing the speed of the faster head.
The FP Piccolo is FAR more appropriate while learning to fly a heli. |

hi
i learned on a fun and it took quite a beating and was ready for more , learned to fly with no broken parts >lots of crashes though< by the time you learn you'll be ready for a new machine too , theres enough going on at first that it pays to keep it simple , good luck |

Piccoboard plus is excellent if you don't want to mod your chopper too much or don't draw too much current. If your thinking of turning your pic into a lean mean flying machine then bypass the piccoboards and go seperates from the outset as it enables you to upgrade components as your needs change and as newer flasher components are released.

search *cough cough* search
but then the search is dodgy! what you want is 2 electronic speed controllers a reciever and a gyro |

the search is dodgy! [/ QUOTE ] What was that saying "bad work man always blames his tools" - just kidding, I find that if I put a search string in and then click the blob so that I only search for words in the subject, then it works quite well. But separates are just a speed controler for main and tail motor, gyro, and receiver - seems backwards, but already I am dying to go to separates! Give it some serious thought |
