Moving from planks, I already had my FFS (6XAs/6XHs). Having purchased an ECO 8, a new TX was not an immediate option, plus, I get on rather well with this set.
Without the help of the excellent Dream Models site, I don't think that I would have survived the learning process. However, with the help of this page http://www.dream-models.com/eco/radio-6XHs-ff6.html (and one or two others) I can now hover (damage only caused 1 flight out of 10) reasonably well. I have now gone a stage further and experimented with the settings in this radio. I am posting them as they may help others BUT, just because they work for me, it is still worth going slowly! First, the AFR values. I am using Supertec Naro Max/BB servos on the collective/cyclic and on the outside hole of the standard arm. I have reduced the AFR values to +40%. This gives me a pitch of -1.5 +5 +10 and plenty of cyclic. The ECO is now slightly less sensitive to control movements but still with plenty of manoeverability (at my level). Throttle mix. I am using a Jeti Advance controller and Mega 22/20/3. With the HV-T mix reduced to +40%, I get a much softer start up (it's actually not that bad at +50% if you ease the stick up slow to start). There is still plenty of head speed at the hover ( 15T pinion) in fact, I can hover quite adequately with my 7 cell packs. This does just take the 'edge' of a bit, but again at my level, this is good. I have spent hours trying to master REVO mixing with this set and got nowhere! I now have it disabled. Although I might have progressed quicker (and cheaper) with a heading hold gyro or a good REVO mix, I'm finding this managable. But if anyone has found a good starting point I would love to hear. As I say these settings work well for me at a very much beginner level. I offer them for you to experiment with. Good luck. |

Thanks for the update Clive.
Do you think it's worth adding this info to the Dream Models page or will everybody have to adjust to the used servos/ESC anyways? |

I think that the Dream Models page is such a good starting point that an update would cause more confusion. The set ups as they are will get people into the air. They will then discover their own direction.
My update was just to point people, who may well be encountering some of the same peculiarities of this TX, in a particular direction. |

About the Revo mix, if you leave like it is by default I think is 25% works quite well
That is why I did not add any information in that. |

Thanks GonZo, I've tried this setting (both +25% and -25%) without much success. Part of the problem is that it really needs a more competent flyer to set such things up succesfully. When ever I switch REVO on, it alters the center point of the servo which presumably upsets the (rate) gyro, causing more confusion.
The other puzzle, is that for both above and below mid throttle, the settings both have to be the same direction ie. + or -. To my level of understanding, this seems wrong? Thanks for your input and for saving my sanity. |
