Default A Piccolo story...

Funny little story.

I frequent Galaxy Hobby in Lynnwood, Washington. I've been in there a bunch, and spent a TON of money (either through my wallet or a friends!). In getting to know the owner, Bob, also a Piccolo pilot, he made it clear at one point that he wasn't overly fond of his little bird.

In talking about this further he indicated that he really couldn't fly his Pic, and that once you go collective you'll never go back to the Piccolo. I took exception to this, and of course boasted that although it IS like having marginal control over Rocky J. Squirrel on CRACK, I could pretty much keep a steady hover in the area in front of the store, approximately an area the size of my garage where I fly at home. He's like "Yeah, okay."

Several weeks transpired, many dollars were exchanged for various goods, and every time I threatened to bring in my Piccolo and show him that I could keep a hover in that area. "Uh-huh", a thin-lipped smile and a look of dis-belief was about all I got out of him. I'd finally had it....

Yesterday I talked to Bob about exchanging out some servos and threatened once more to bring the Pic in, only this time I did it.

This was the first time I'd flown for anyone other than immediate family members and I was REALLY nervous! I turned on the transmitter, plugged in the battery, and hovered within the contraints of the area I had originally mentioned for about 4 straight minutes. Bob's eyes about bugged out! I was more happy that I could actually do what I said than to have showed off my "incredible tail-in hovering abilities". But it was pretty cool to have half a dozen people glued to watching me fly the little bird.

Afterwards I showed all the spectacular modifications on my Pic - Robert Lee's BEAUTIFUL CF blades & canopy, GONZO flybar arms, J's pitch adjuster, Chris' double anti-roation link and swashplate ball MOD, Nath's one-way bearing MOD, not to mention bragging about all the advice from willp, Paul, Phil, wolfpacked, and others that got me to where I am now.

Just a small victory story and a thanks to all you creative geniuses out there!

My first flight with my Piccolo was in front of about 30 people. When I originally joined my club, I told them I wanted to fly helicopters. I heard a LOT of "good luck"s. I bought a raptor and learned how to hover, bought a plank and learned how to fly. I bought the piccolo, assembled it and went to my club's fly-in at a high school gymnasium. A few members had Pics, none of them could fly them well. They were amazed when I hovered in one spot for a full battery pack on my first try. Much fun!

Well done Anew. I recounted once before about a similar experience in a village hall when all the members of a bowls club in the next hall insisted in coming through to watch me cos the person who booked the hall told them somebody was coming to fly a miniature heli. I don't know about you but the adrenaline was flowing in gallons as i revved up.

Hi, I am 13 years old and bought my piccolo a few weeks ago after seeing fellow club members hover the little thing around. By using all the tips on Pauls web site and the bbs I had no problem learning to fly it. After three weeks and maybe 100 flights still no crashes. This just goes to show you that if you take your time the Piccolo is not as hard as some may lead to think.
