I simply loved the way he documented RIFF. Everyone did something a little different and saw different aspect of RIFF. Collin just added another beautiful piece of the montage.

Collin's compositions were excellent. His exposures, depth of field, moving pans, shutter speeds, etc. is something you don't see very often as most just point and shoot with digital.
If I was wearing a hat, I'd tip it to you, thanks, nicely done. ...Rick |

LOL, Collin wasn't using a point a shoot digital. He was using a Canon Digital Rebel (300D) digital SLR with a Sigma lens. If you noticed Collin was in the picture where he was standing next to Radd and Neil while Neil was flying Radd's Raptor. I took that picture. I fell in love with the camera so much that I came home and bought one. Now I carry the camera in my backpack that goes everywhere with me. |

No no, you're misunderstanding me, sorry for the confusion. I knew he was using the Rebel, I'm hoping to get one myself as you have, especially having seen his work and your praise of it as well.
I didn't mean he was using a "point and shoot digital" camera, I meant most people only "point and shoot" a digital camera. It was clear in his pictures that he was using the other modes available that most folks don't understand how to use. The difference is he was able to capture lighting and motion that most can't, IE. panning so the background was motion, exposures that showed the prop in motion, framing, foreground/background lighing, etc, spot on. (Again, tip hat here) You're going to love it Hansen, it gets good reviews, and in my opinion is the best for the money, hands down. Bring yours to '05 so I can play with it, not sure I'll be able to purchase one by then. ...Rick |

I think you guys are going to like your Rebel's even more than you might think - I've just got to fess up: I was too busy watching what was going on and enjoying myself at the RIFF, so most of the pictures WERE point-and-shoot! It's such a good camera, just set it up and forget it!!
Only weak point is the same as ALL SLR's with a built-in flash: It is good for about an inch from the camera!! So I'll definitely be toting a flash gun if I get to another RIFF. (Don't get me wrong, I really like having a flash on the camera even if it is a bit weak. Better an underexposed shot than a missed one.) The lens could do with being a bit faster, but the factoring of the lens ('cos the ccd is smaller than a 35 mm frame) makes a 300 mm max into a 460 mm max - nice for trying to capture helis flashing around! ![]() Anyway, thanks for the compliments of the pictures (you show exceptional stamina in ploughing through them!) but a lot of it goes to the camera. |
