As I said in the other post, the Sanyo 3300 10 cell pack was still connected to the ECO when it came up from the lake. It appeared ok, but I was going to write it off. My diver friend there felt it should be ok and said I should try charging it and see. So, I put it on the Triton at .1A and let it be. When I connected it the screen showed only .77V, so I wasn't too excited about it being any good. It ran until the Triton timed out (999 minutes) and showed over 14V in the pack, so I put it on a discharge cycle. It discharged out 1727mah. I then put it through a fast charge to see how it would handle that. It charged in 3357 mah with the cells normally warm after that charge! The pack only had 2 cycles on it when it went in, but I'd think that water would have migrated into the cells through the vents over that time (11 months!!) I'm going to throw it on our battery analyser tonight and see how it handles a high discharge as I don't have a model to put it in presently, but if it survived that most definitely says a LOT about Sanyo cells!! BTW, it still looks new as well. I'll have to post a pic tonight as I'm at work presently. |

Strange?...but I think we are all glad to see this helicopter again!....
I cant remember who it was....But a couple years ago one of our flyers had his Piccolo stolen when he went inside to get his camera.....We were all just sick....If I remember right he got his back as well.... |

A blast from the past!
Where is the pic, HARR? And how is the motor and the rest of the electronics? |

[/ QUOTE ] Pics are in this thread: http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubbth...fpart=1#398083 Most of the electronics are out for service presently. The motor ran after it was cleaned, however had a strange noise to it so I attempted to open it up for inspection. Unfortunately I didn't find out in time how to properly open it and ruined the bearings and caused some minor damage to the magnet. There was metallic silt particulates all over the rotor magnet when I finally got it open though.. that's what was making the noise as they were barely clearing the windings inside. It didn't look too bad at all when it came up though.. more info in that other thread. |

Well i am back for sure now...
I am glag Harr that you find it after all. At least you will have something to bury. Btw it looks in a very good condition and my guess is that this is because the water is not salty. Chris |

Well, out of all the electronics the only things that survived, however not unscathed, were the motor, battery, and UBEC. The motor needed to be opened up to be cleaned, however it did run before I did that. The battery pack has been cycled 7 times and is only taking in around 2600mah, but it delivers it out under current as well. The UBEC appears to be working flawlessly, however I cannot totally trust it just yet. Maybe after I go over the solder connections on the board I'll feel better. Does supply rx voltage though, and will run 3 servos simultaneously.

clean them with alcohol and everything will be fine since those parts are still working.
Normaly the other parts should be working as well but i suspect mud and particles must be everywhere in the cirquits especially underneath the Ic's. Did you cleaned the ESC? Chris |

The ESC initialized fine, but would not spool up any brushless I connected to it.. just sat there ratcheting. I wrote Castle Creations and told them this controller has sentimental value to me (it was part of my father's day gift in 03) and they told me to send it in and Patrick would look at it to see if he could fix this one, and if not they'll exchange it for a new one at much reduced cost. BTW, the Phoenix 35 that I had burn on me when it submerged in a bad water crash was replaced by them as well.. for $30.. with the newest model!! I am learning a bit about the various vendors of the electronics on this through this experience. Some are very customer oriented, and told me to send the items to them and they'd do their best to repair them. Others basically told me to pound sand, although that's acceptable as it was submerged for 11 months LOL! Presently, the ESC is at CC getting either repaired or replaced, the HS-81 and Super Slim 8 receiver is at Hitec being inspected for possible repairs, and the G410T Gyro is at Horizon Hobby (JR's distributor and repair center here in the states) getting assessed. Lehner Motors replied to me and told me it would be cheaper to just buy a new one. I have not heard from Kool Flight yet on the UBEC to see if they'll look it over. At least that appears to be functional anyway.

It seems that you may recover your heli after all and at a resonable cost.
You are lucky that you dont have to deal with Greek suppliers and stores. Here they will replace something only after you are dead and then not in this world but in the next one. Chris Chris |

Chris Chris [/ QUOTE ] Most of this ECO will fly again. I need to go through all the bearings (seems the Ikarus ones are NOT stainless.. probably an alloy of sorts as they are rusted) and install new servos and drive system. I decided I'll probably leave the frame and stuff as it is (slightly faded from the hull cleaner I used to clean the lake deposits off) for the memories. I'll be reconstructing it as an Airwolf with DarthDrk's 222 body that I purchased awhile ago. Figured it will be my scale heli in my fleet. I will be selling the second ECO that I started constructing once it's completed though.. no need to have 2 of them, and both are blinged up with ali parts pretty good. |
