I was also wondering about that. However from the way the fuel probe just broke apart I wonder if it was designed to be a sacrificial item to save the main blades. So may be the damage may not be as bad. |

also wonder if there was any imbalance in the rotor head caused by that impact, and if so how much vibration were they experiencing to boot! [/ QUOTE ] Probably the crew where shaking of fear so they did not noticed the vibrations LOL |

I'm sure they designed the fueling rod to be sacrificial in that area in case what happened happens, however the blades had to take some kind of damage in spite of that. I don't think the designer of that heli ever intended for those blades to be pushed down like that though.. you can see the bounce in the rotorhead when they get positive pitch again. That's probably the time when all those buzzers went off LOL!

I also was wondering if the tip of the fueling rod landed in a populated area.. that had to hit with some purpose! :O

These guys had a bad day as well!! Navy Helicopter Mishap [/ QUOTE ] It looks like when the tail wheels hit and stopped his forward movement and turned him left a bit, then he had super lift on the right side due to GE from the ship, and very little lift on the left side by comparison, and it just fliped him over. I do hope all survived. ...Rick |

Actually if you look closely you'll see that he got his left side LG stuck on the fence around the deck from coming in a little low. He then tried to lift off again to correct it but the fence held and tipped it over sideways.
