Default STRANGE lack of lift

Having some SERIOUS good flights, feels so good

BUT, I have a syndrome where after about 3 minutes of flight my throttle maxes out & I lose lift & have to land. I then notice the paddles/flybar have pitched forward a hair from throttling up & down, I flatten them out & she takes to the sky fine at around 3/4 throttle (still not getting great lift at 10T pinion). The process then repeats.

I have my flybar arms as TIGHT as possible

Any theories? Motor? LiPos? I need to try another battery pack maybe.......

Thanks, all help appreciated greatly

Lee

sounds like a slipping pinion to me a little drop of CA to hold the pinion in placle would do it i think

Sounds like batts. You run them down, you think your paddles are outta whack, you take time to adjust them, meanwhile the batts recover a little, and you're able to get in the air again.

Thanks

Leaning towards Jeff here, the pinion is CA'd on rock solid, gonna try another battery......

Does a worn out 310 ever behave this way?

Give your motor a clean anyway, you would be surprised at what a difference it can make!

Sounds like battery drain. Lipo's recover and will continue to fly for a few minutes after a short rest.

If you are using the G310 motor, I'd recommend the 9 tooth pinion, it will decrease the rotor speed, requiring you to throttle up higher, and the higher voltage will reduce the current draw and increase your flight time. The motor should run cooler as well. You should be hovering about 75% throttle.

With my Kokam 1020's, G310, 9 tooth pinion, no canopy, stock blades, I'd get 15 plus minutes of flying time.

Also, the pinion gear mesh needs to have some wink. Too tight and it will suck your battery dry and overheat the motor.

Thanks everybody

C&B - started with a 9 tooth pinion, couldnt get any lift, maybe I'll try a different battery with it though.........

I would suspect something isn't correct in your setup if you need a 10 tooth pinion to get airborne.

Did you break-in your motor and have you clean/flushed it at all?

STILL have the problem, damn this is driving me crazy, I can finally fly very stable, no crashes in weeks, BUT it wont stay in the air, 3 min is max I can hover.

switched back to other 310 (came with V2, 9T brass pinion which may add weight) & got same results that made me jump to 10T, barely hovering, cant get out of ground effect.

ALSO tried 2 other packs, same thing.

Now the new 310 hasnt been run in/flushed, BUT the 310 I've been running the 10T on HAS been run in, damn. I'm about to pop on my Orion & say heck with it.

Is it possible I have a heavy bird? In addition to stock parts I have:
pro tail motor
alu swash (the older kind, maybe heavier?)
woven carbon fiber tail boom (seems heavier than the old booms)
alu head
retrofit landing gear

Also, I DO have grooves ground into my drive shaft where the swash makes contact, could this be causing it? If so, then why can I hover for 3 mins, then she maxes out & forces touchdown?

??????????????????????????

Thanks guys

Stop guessing

Get yourself a Voltmeter and measure the pack voltage
(with the motor running) when it will no longer fly.

On 2 Lipo, you need to have enough rpm to enable flight
down to 6V.
Your 75% throttle may just be too high.
Try adding more pitch to the blades
or a bigger pinion.

Heat is a good indication for motors
Hot is Bad
Cold means its not working hard enough
