Default Brushless Motor Temp

As a rule of thumb, how hot is too hot for a brushless motor? i.e. Mega 22/20/3H

Outstanding. With my heat sink and fan on top the hotest it's ever been was around 130 (I think) I'm going to check this weekend. :-) Time to get this baby in the sweet spot of around 150 to 160 degrees. :0) I can move up a tooth. :-)

I bet you are in the swwet spot right now.

Getting it up to 150/160 degrees will probably get a bit more power out of the motor but you will sacrifice some duration.

True. I'll try not to get it hotter than 145 :-)

Same here, I like to keep my motors at 140degF or less.

I like to keep my motor above 250 F as i like to eat toasts
after a flight.
I would say that as a general rule, if you can
touch it for a long time then it is fine (~ 50-55 Celsious).
Most materials can stand 50 degrees Celcius without damage.

The cooler you keep them the better. I don't like seeing 150's on mine. I did push my little Feigao a little far once though.. not sure how hot it got, but it was hot enough to melt the plastic gearbox it was in, and I had a heatsink on it! Still runs though, and I won't be using that prop/battery combo again LOL!

I agree that the cooler the better but up to a point.
There must be a point where the efficiency,
((output power)/(input power)) or n of the WHOLE system not just the motor, will reach maximum and thats where
i think the motor should be operated especialy on electrics.
Now the method to measure the actual power output using
real life equipment, is another story.
