bad mixer in piccoboard?

I have a jr 8103 and I was wondering if i could somehow turn off the mixer on the piccoboard and use the mixer on the radio.

Sure. Turn the mix pot to zero.

What I did to fine tune things was to leave the mix pot at optimum for hover, and then use the revo mix in the transmitter to fine tune it at lower power settings so the yaw tendency on landing is reduced. I don't think that the mix curve in the Piccoboard is totally correct at all power settings, and this fixes it.
