In my typical lazy fashion, rather then search through all the messages, can someone please tell what are ALL the metal parts that are now available for piccolo? Did anyone do a main frame yet? How about the rotor head? How soon before it will be possible to fly a, say 75% all alum. bird?

George,
Funny you should ask that question, as I was talking to a fellow pilot about all the upgrades available. OK, Ally parts available :- Hub - J & Pierre CP Head - J One way bearing - Walt Swashplate (90 & 120 degree) - Pierre Skids - J Links - J Parts that would be nice to see :- CP Pitch slider Main gear with one-way bearing built in. Main frame with decent servo mounts. New tail gearbox, shaft driven from split main gear. That is all I think!!! The only problem with all these parts is the price. As it is I quickly totalled up how much my Brushless CP pic cost and it was around £500 !!! Compared to a brushed ECO 8 that cost £300 complete!!! There are some good plastic parts, which would be hard to make out of ally, i.e. Chris Rigoleths AR link. The other part on my wish list is some Carbon Fibre or Composite CP blades. ------------------ Tim G-TAW Have a look at My Pic Pics Page |

Hi Tim,
Can't you use Hornet blades with the twist taken out and a bolt hole adaptor? I'm sure they'd work well. ------------------ Robert Lee Carbon fibre Piccolo blades - http://uk.geocities.com/robert_lee_uk_2000/ email: robert(dot)lee(at)corusgroup(dot)com |

Tim,
If you look at adding all the available mods and upgrade parts guys are doing the value of your brushless pic would be near the £700 mark Ali swash $95 Ali head $88 Hollow shaft $23 There is one thing about this hobby - It gets expensive ! Talking of Eco 8s I've just worked out that you have spent more on your brushless Pic than I have on my Eco, including my JR TX (just don't tell the wife ------------------ Malcolm G-MEC |

Tim,
The other thing to mention, is with all these modified parts we are in effect producing a new helicopter as it will be so far from the stock Pic that it can not really be called a piccolo ------------------ Malcolm G-MEC |

Robert, yeah I know you can use the Hornet blades, but thought someone would make some specially for the Pic.
Malcolm, GULP!!!! Now I know why I am broke. Yeah, a totally upgraded Pic, with the additional bits I mention wouldn't really be a Pic, but would be way cool ------------------ Tim G-TAW Have a look at My Pic Pics Page |

Are you just looking at the most expensive parts? The al swashplate can be had for $50, and the hub for very little.
But you are right; this is an expensive hobby. Regards, Pierre |

You don't need any of this parts to fly but most of them can save you money in the long run. That is if you fly more than ones a year
I think the alu parts are not expensive, it's the Piccolo that are cheap If we could just get everyone to fly a Piccolo the prices would come down alot so if everyone here gave a kit to a friend we might get that money back in no time!? ------------------ SE-XJL Hubs and other mods And Flybar bearing mod Piccolo records page |
