Whats the worst crash anyone here has had?
When I first started flying bearings and hubs would go everywhere but since J's aluminum hub and Chris's anti-rotation link the worst crashes result in popped rotor head and a broken anti-rotation pin which I CA back on in 5 mins. |

It's hard to call any Piccolo crash the "worst" because it rarely does much damage that can't be easily repaired. But I have had two that I THOUGHT would do a lot of damage.
The first was one where I was showing off for some glow powered heli flyers and was flying fixed pitch in winds that were way too much for the little heli. It got blown over on its back and went right over my head and hit upside down behind me. There was NO damge at all. The second was one in the basement where it got sucked up against the underside of a cold air duct and fell six feet to the concrete floor. Again, there was no damage that I recall. Truly remarkable. |

I've had several that could have been worse.. However, by far my worst crash happened when I was trying to fly outside on a reasonably still night. A slight wind gust came along and I got confused, next thing I knew my heli was heading nose down into the pavement. I had to get a new gyro after that, as well as new landing skids, and probably a tail boom.

Has anyone ever broken a rotor blade?

Well... As some of you may know my piccolo has recently met its demise. but the crash didn't do all the damage as i destroyed the rest of it . I was pissed because I was thinking about how much more it would cost to fly again. The tail was uncontrollably yawing. I am on a "break" from this hobby now so i can let my hobby budget settle Pretty much all the main components were destroyed. Picco & reciever boards, chassis, tail boom, skids and struts, servos came off ect. But all my mods (seen below) including my CF blades (whew) survived along with the smaller parts. So when i build a new one (i spents too much time and money figuring this thing out), jordan.

In my days of trying to learn to control my CP, I was flying in my living room, with my wife taking a picture (the one on the Picco Pilots page). All of a sudden my Picco came back and slapped my arm crazy! I had about 12 welts along my arm. The Picco didn't fare so well. Broke the CP blades, CP rotor head, hub, skids, and tail boom.

I have never really had any real bad piccolo crashes, the worst "crash" I have ever had a was when I was learning to do nose in I I came in tail first to the ground, no damage though. Othere than that I have just had minor tip-overs.
The worst Pic crash I have seen is when Paul was flying his brand new CP conversion kit, and one of those rubber launched gliders locked in on target with his Pic. As it fell to the ground it looked as if there was quite a bit of damage, yet, (if I can remember right), the only thing broken was the tail blade. The worst heli crash I have had was when I was flying my brand new ECO-8 at the golf dome, and this guy turned his TX on, that was on my feq. Well, let me just say that there was plenty of damage after that one. |

I've split a rotor blade, it was about 3/4 towards the end of the blade and slit to just passed the centre line of the blade. I was trying nose in and instead of coming away from the wall I slammed the Picc into the wall at full speed.
They were my white H300 blades and the split wasn't visable only when you flexed them. They were impossible to fly on the tracking was way out. That was the only damage due to that meeting with the wall. My worst crash was two Piccolos meeting. Piccolo 1 was hovering nicely and Piccolo 2 came out of a circuit and neatly took Picc 1 out of the sky. Both Piccolos were back in the air with no damage in 5 minutes. I'm glad to say Picc 2 was my Piccolo but I wasn't flying it at the time. [ 02 March 2002, 23:27: Message edited by: Mike_Y ] |
