I could'nt make my radio work on my pic & don't know if it's the pic board or my hi-tech feather rx that is broken but got the red light lit when battery was plugged in & got some weird movement on my sevos when tx turned on.Don't know for sure if all the wirings hook up were right.
Thanks. Vince |

Hi Vince. Someone more experienced will come along to help shortly, but you could try a couple of things first.
I'm assuming that you have compatible crystals on the right channel, so turn on the Tx, make sure the throttle is at zero, then plug the battery into the Pic. After a few seconds, (up to 10 or 14 in some cases), the red light should burn steadily. If it doesn't, do the servos respond to stick movement ? If the servos respond but the light doesn't come on you may need to reverse the throttle channel, unplug the Pic then change the Tx. (You need to be careful to always turn the Tx on first and off last, otherwise the Pic can go into uncontrolled spasms). Then try the Pic again. Let us know the results.... |

I would recommend doing trials and sorting out the radio channels with the blades removed in case it does start up unexpectedly.
I have helped to connect a few Pics now, and it is surprisingly easy to plug things in the wrong holes or have a channel working backwards. |

If you hook up just the receiver and two servos to channels one and two, power up the receiver and the transmitter, and see what happens. If you get both servos working, then start looking at the piccoboard. If you do not get good servos, disconnect the servos (after you power down) and use one servo on each channel one at a time. Power up each time and see if the servo works for the respective channel on your transmitter. This will help identify which channel is bad...I hope this helped...Tom Sends!

Also make sure your radio is set correctly: PPM or PCM. The Piccolo needs PPM.

Checklist:
Did it ever work? Are the transmitter and receiver on the same channel? Is the receiver crystal the correct one for the receiver? Are the transmitter and receiver the same shift direction? Are the servos and Piccoboard channels plugged into the correct receiver channels? The channel assignment is set by the transmitter. Do the servos work correctly? The red LED does not necessarily mean that everything is correct. The Piccoboard will initialize if it sees something resembling zero on the throttle and rudder inputs, but you could still have them plugged into the wrong receiver channels. Futaba/Hitec is: 1=Aileron 2=Elevator 3=Throttle 4=Rudder Not sure about JR, but it is different. Note that to check just the servos, you still need the Piccoboard plugged into the receiver because that is how the receiver gets its power. For safety, remove the tail rotor and disengage the main motor from the spur gear. That way nothing can get damaged if a motor starts suddenly, but you can still tell if the motor(s) start. |
