Due to a mix up with the shop writing my debit card nuber down wrongly, my Piccolo isnt on its way to me at the moment, i have been doing some more research into the micro heli's and have heard whispers that there is a collective pitch Piccolo on the way called a Piccolo pro??,
Does anyone know when this will be available?, because i have been reading about the Hornet, and at the moment it seems to be a better helicopter than the current Piccolo?, what does any one else think? |

Mosser:
I say that if you are just starting out, then a picc might be *slightly* more easier to learn, but if you already have micro heli experience, then it depends on how good a deal you are getting on the goods. Mosser, it depends on your experience level. If you have flown helis before, then definitely get a hornet. If you are a newbie then definitely get a piccolo. If you plan on flying indoors primarily, say in your living room then get a piccolo. I have both and right now I prefer the piccolo because I primarily fly indoors.

Also, there is already a collective pitch upgrade kit for the piccolo for 110 dollars, it's been out for some time already. Keep in mind this is for already acomplished piccolo pilots as it is more fragile. I have been flying my FP piccolo for some time now and am loving it. This is a big topic, so do a search here and on the hornet BB and you should get a lot of matches.

Thanks everyone!, i am going to put off my decision for a few days and decide then,
As i live in a flat flying indoors isnt really an option for me ( the wife would kill me if she saw a heli whizzing rpound her living room!!!), I do have helicoper flying experience and got pretty good at flying my concept 30 a few years ago, but sold it because i was getting nagged by the wife for bringing home a smelly heli each time i flew it, but electric should solve these problems for me, I really would prefer the Piccolo because of its compactness, but am alarmed at how many mods are needed to get it flying nicely, all of my flying will be done in a big field just across the road from me, does the hornet or piccolo handle better outside?, i had a rather old enging in my concept and had to do regular autos to get it down safely, do electric helis, just quit when the battery runs out?, or is there time to land properly?, Also, i've never flown a fixed pitch before, is the handling fairly similar?, i was never into the 3d stuff really, but did the odd bit of inverted flight and just seemed to race around in big circles trying to chase the planes at my last club (which highly amused the fixed wing pilots!!!), so does the Piccolo or hornet sound better for what i do?, or is there another heli which might suit me better?, Cheers everyone, hope i havent upset the administrators on here by posting this, but i cant find any other heli chat groups that seem as knowlegable as everyone on here! |

Even a little amount of wind will push the piccolo around, you have to remember it only wieghts less then 250 grams. It really belongs more in a gym then a flying field. As for the piccolo, as the battery runs low you will get less power and eventually fall into ground effect, so no, you would have plenty of time to land safely. I believe electric helicopters can do autorotations but not fixed pitch helicopters, there is no way to reduce pitch and keep the RPM up. There is the collective pitch upgrade and people along with ikarus make freewheel gears but i'm not sure if it can autorotate. Also the stock piccolo is not that great at FFF, you can do different mods that would improve flight but you can only go so far. Although these guys were successful... check out www.dreamhobbies.com and go to the eldorado funfly section and check out what they've got their piccolo's doing. For your situation I think something more like a logo 10 (.30 size electric heli) would be better for you.

Many thanks, i think i have decided on the Hornet now because it seems to have a higher head speed and handle wind better, if i find the funds to own 2 electric helis (i wish!!) then i will still get a Piccolo for indoors only

Damn!!!, just when i think i have made a choice, i find news that ikarus have released the new piccolo pro apparently with flight times of 30 minutes!!!
0Check out the middle left of this web page, has anyone heard anything about this? http://www.rc-soar.com/index.html I'm still undecided at the moment, i like the indestructability of the piccolo, but also the flight characteristics of the hornet |

Everyone here is waiting for the batteries to actually become available Ian, though they have already been "announced".
