well, i have a problem with joining the two half of the canopy, so i give up. (no, it's not the canopy fault, i'm just not very good at it.)
so i use my imagination and start cutting a rocket cone into a canopy. mine turns out pretty well, and i like it a lot. i use sand paper and sand down the thinkness to reduce weight, but leave some for strength. the weight is comparable to most of the JMD canopies. i know this because i've ruin two already, when trying to join the two half together. well, my idea is not the best idea out there, but at least i got my feet wet. Pablito,
Check out the "foamies" section on E-zone(www.ezoneflyer.com). They are doing lot's of stuff with "fan fold" and "foamcore" products. I plan on building a training canopy using some of their ideas. John |

Pablito, if you run into trouble making your own I have a Huey piccolo foam canopy that I'm thinking about selling. Here is a thread with a pic of it. Let me know if you are interested.

Hi Pablito,
I built a couple of canopies out of a foam called bluecore by DOW. It comes in a bundle 4X50'. I peeled the thin film off and cut two pieces for the sides that looked sorta like a Cobra gunship nose. I then joined it with foam safe CA with cross pieces all the same width to be able to slide it over the board and motor etc. I left a lot of it open to keep the heat down and marked it with a sharpie pen for a little more detailed look. Pictures were posted a couple weeks ago on this list. I will go back and find the thread and post it in this one. Good luck! Bill |

Hi Pablito,
Here's the canopy thread with some pics for you. Its simple and quick. I used a photo copier to blow up a 3 view to get it the right size with out having to work too hard. then cut it out and marked the blue foam. http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/ubb/u...c;f=1;t=007371 |

If you can get hold of some Depron foam sheet, that would be the stuff, but I understand that its very difficult to get in the US. The Apache has a very angular type fuz, so would be good to try. There's a plan and article in this months Quiet and Electric Flight magazine over here, for a Lancaster built of Depron.
Another way would be to use blue foam and hollow it out, somewhere, many moons ago ,on this BB there was abeautiful Ecuriel ,made like this. Blue foam is relatively heavy though. Another alternative would be Rob Hemmings Bell 47, basically built of 1mm carbon rod. |
