Default 3D Masters

Hi all,

For those of you that might be interested, and live in the UK, the 3D Masters competition is being held this weekend at the University of Northampton.

Its a two day event that has attracted most of best 3D pilots in the world, Jason Krause, Curtis Youngblood, Scott Gray, Jan Henseleit, David Dutrieux and Peter Novotny just to mention a few. I imagine that there will be plenty of spectacular flying, two days of it!

If you are interested take a look at www.3dmasters.org.uk for further details. Are any of you planning to go? I am certainly going to be there...

On Saturday evening they have organized an indoor electric competition. Mostly Logos I believe, but you never know there might be the odd Piccolo...

Hi,

I'm certainly going to be there Saturday afternoon, and evening if possible. I'll watch out for you - that's the disadvantage of posting your Photo

It certainly looks like it will be fun.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

What did you think? Amazing... Did you see Curtis and Jason's final freestyle flights on Sunday! I don't think that it's possible to describe how impressive they were, I just feel privileged to have seen them go head to head!

The general standard of all the competitors was so high, I've got a lot of practice to catch up on...

I don't have a video camera, I must get one!

Quite a few of my freinds were filming, assuming they got some good clips I'll let you know where and when they get posted to the web...

Hi Max,

Sorry haven't replied earlier - Yes you're right - amazing flying - I especially liked Bob Johnstone's display. He climbed it until it was practically out of sight - literally a speck in the sky, then cut the motor - he auto'ed it all the way down - including Inverted and flared to a perfect landing at his feet.

I got a load of video scraps - haven't even had a chance to look at them yet - but I doubt if they are worth sharing. Although I think I caught the 'heavy landing' late on teh Saturday - can't remember the guy's name.

Did any electrics appear - we had to bail out about 6.30 - the hall was full of people - but not a Heli in sight

For anyone that missed it - watch out for next year - its recommended !!

Jason Krause use to have some videos loaded on his web site at www.jkheli.com They are great but He is unbelievable to watch in person...You have to hear the blades begging for mercy to get the full affect

Hi Mark,

Bob flew a few displays with his Logo 10. It was good to see it 3Ding all over the place...

Also, at the Saturday evening BBQ several guys flew Hornets and put on some "mild" 3D displays. I didn't see any Piccolos I'm afraid to say. If the Piccolo Pro manages to establish its self then I guess we may see some flying next year...

Hi Radd,

Jason flew some amazing free style sets, and you're right you have to be there to really appreciate them. At the end of the second day I went over to speak to him and he showed me his blades, he had managed to scrape the paint from the top side tips during some of his sudden inverted zero altitude high speed stops.

It was also fun to see Curtis and Jason go head to head. I must say that Curtis also put on an amazing show. He did one stunt that had to be believed to be seen. Behind the flight line there was a long row of tall trees that you couldn't see behind, and behind these trees there was an area of unused land. Anyway, he took his Vigor up real high, brought it down in a very fast knife-edge spiral. He then flew behind and below the tree line. At this point the crowd all start gasping! He must have then recovered from the spiral dive and hovered (without being able to see the heli) because he seemed to wait for a second of two before his heli came screaming back into to sight in a high speed vertical pirouette! Stunning to witness…

Basically they were trying to out do each other in their respective free style sets… In the fixed maneuvers there was no doubt that Curtis was by far the best. He was just so accurate and smooth in all of his maneuvers, i.e. an inverted slow pirouetting figure of eight! In the free style Jason had the edge, but Curtis wasn’t far behind. Watch this space…
